Geocycle Canada has commissioned a state-of-the-art low-carbon fuel facility at its Exshaw cement plant in Alberta. This new facility will help replace up to 50% of natural gas with low-carbon alternatives. It will also divert up to 120,000 tons of waste from landfills and reduce CO₂ emissions by as much as 30,000 tons annually. 👋 Meet Tarek, Platform Manager at Geocycle Egypt. Tarek Hassan manages alternative fuel and waste treatment facilities, including sorting systems and biomass shredders. We spoke with Tarek about his Geocycle journey: 💬 “Recently, I have been working on relocating the Geocycle platform and refuse-derived fuel production lines to our Sokhna plant. The aim is to control both the quantity and quality of alternative fuels to meet the high demands of the market.” “With this relocation, the platform can now produce 240,000 tons of alternative fuels from waste per year. It also helps Geocycle Egypt get closer to its target to reduce its carbon footprint by 350,000 tons of CO₂ in 2024." “It’s rewarding to be part of projects like this that make a positive impact.” 👏  Congratulations, Tarek! Geocycle Canada has opened its first low-carbon fuel plant at the Lafarge Brookfield Cement Plant in Nova Scotia. ♻️  The facility will transform waste products that would otherwise end up in landfills – like non-recyclable plastics and construction and demolition materials – into alternative fuels. This will minimize the Brookfield Cement Plant’s reliance on traditional fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions by more than 12,000 tons per year. 🚗  That is the equivalent to taking 13,480 passenger vehicles off the road! “We are happy to take another significant step in our on-going partnership with Lafarge Canada,” says Sophie Wu, Head of Geocycle North America. “This is a great example of our work toward the decarbonization of the construction industry in Canada.” Read more about this new facility here: https://lnkd.in/gBKNwwSR #WasteManagement #RethinkingWaste

How can we tackle plastic pollution? 💰 The United Nations Environment Programme estimates $1.64 trillion is needed by 2040 to tackle the global plastic problem. This money would go toward new policies and the creation of necessary systems to measure and reduce pollution. With plastic production expected to triple by 2060, there is no time to waste. 🌍 World leaders met in April to start drafting the first-ever global treaty to address plastic pollution. Yet they were unable to arrive at a consensus as to who should foot the bill. On top of the issue of funding, governments and businesses can only move as fast as the technology. For some types of advanced recycling, plastics must first be sorted and cleaned – making it an impractical and costly solution. 💡 At Geocycle, our solutions are designed to mitigate uncontrolled plastic pollution and help curb the microplastic crisis. Our waste management approach enables us to completely destroy plastics, leaving no residue behind. Plus, we recover the energy from the process to substitute fossil fuels.
