Our Eurostars project REDRA (Autonomous Resident Underwater Drone System for Aquaculture Industry - 2171) is making significant strides.
The project team recently conducted testing of the EXRAY compact subsea drone accompanied by its inductive docking and charging station. This innovative solution enables the EXRAY drone to remain resident, recharging wirelessly without the need for retrieval, ensuring continuous operation and data collection.
🌊 Aquaculture Application
EXRAY’s ability to reside within the cage thanks to the inductive charging station opens new possibilities for aquaculture monitoring. This resident ROV can autonomously move around the fish pen, providing farmers with comprehensive daily reports, such as:
Water quality: Monitoring salinity, temperature, oxygen levels, chlorophyll content, and more across the entire pen.
Net condition: Regular visual inspections of the net, offering immediate assessments after events like storms.
Fish health: Onboard sensors continuously monitor stock health and conditions.
With the inductive charging station, EXRAY stays operational around the clock. The collected data is delivered overnight, giving farmers a detailed morning status report. Over time, this solution can optimize feeding strategies, forecast biosecurity risks, prevent fish escapes, and improve harvesting efficiency. Additionally, by minimizing the need for physical visits to the pens, it helps reduce CO2 emissions in the aquaculture industry.
