Earlier this month, three of our colleagues took part in the prestigious International LGBTQI+ Activism Summit 2024 at the Harvard Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, sharing their experience and reflecting on their work as individual activists in national-level advocacy. This summit brought together LGBTQI+ leaders from around the world for an immersive learning journey aimed at fostering movements that challenge harmful myths and combat the stigma faced by our communities worldwide. Congratulations to ILGA World LGBTI Pathways regional officer Yuri Yoursky, Strategic partnerships & coalitions consultant Omar van Reenen, and Research consultant Dhia Rezki Rohaizad for their participation!

Info
ILGA World – the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association - is a worldwide federation of more than 1,700 organisations from over 160 countries and territories campaigning for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex human rights. We want a world where the human rights of all are respected and where everyone can live in equality and freedom: a world where global justice and equity are assured and established regardless of people’s sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions and sex characteristics (SOGIESC). Established in 1978, ILGA World has ECOSOC consultative status at the United Nations. Our member organisations are based in our six regions: Pan Africa ILGA, ILGA Asia, ILGA-Europe, ILGALAC (Latin America and the Caribbean), ILGA North America and ILGA Oceania. Governed by an elected Board of 19 activists representing our global family, ILGA World is queer democracy in action!

The bid to host our next World Conference in Tel Aviv will not go forward and will not be put to a vote at the upcoming World Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. The ILGA World Board held an emergency meeting and unanimously decided to remove the bid from The Aguda from consideration, and it has also decided to suspend the organisation from our membership. The Board also supports the operative part in the emergency motion from our member organisations, which calls for an amendment of the Standing Orders to have better guidelines on the criteria for accepting candidacies and proposals.

“Intersex people exist in all societies and deserve to live their lives free of stigma and discrimination.” We had the opportunity to engage with a few intersex activists and here’s what they had to say. We hope you feel the positivity and support they shared in this video. Happy Intersex Awareness Day, beautiful people! Watch the Spanish version of this video here: https://lnkd.in/esFJAhjm

On this year’s International Trans Day of Action for #Trans #Depathologisation, revisit the episode of our "Making Rainbow Waves" #podcast to learn more about how depathologisation can impact global health policies, what obstacles countries face in their commitments to the health of trans and gender-diverse individuals, and how important cross-movement solidarity really is. “There have always been trans and gender-diverse people. We are part of humanity. I am very hopeful that, in the end, we will have a recognition across the world of our rights to equality and to human dignity.” Follow this link 👉 https://lnkd.in/dgUijJaz to access the full episode and a transcription, or listen wherever you get your podcasts.

This year's #AceWeek is underway! Every year, this global campaign aims to raise awareness and expand education of asexuality. Asexuality is a sexual orientation where a person experiences little to no sexual attraction to anyone and/or does not experience a desire for sexual contact. Like any other sexual orientation, asexuality isn’t a choice, but an innate part of who someone is! Take some time this week to learn more about the community and support those around you. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: The illustration shows a group of three persons wearing clothing items in the colours of the asexual Pride flag. The same colours (black, grey, white, and purple) are shown in the background. The ILGA World logo is at the bottom left of the image.
