IBC's design principles are inspired by the TCP/IP specification that underlies the internet. This mirrors the standard for seamless communication between computers, defining a universal framework for blockchains to communicate. #𝐈𝐁𝐂 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫. 1.The transport layer enables seamless data transfer between chains, handling data transport, authentication, and ordering. Think of it as the standardization of shipping containers for global economic trade. Liveness is an important concept in the Interchain Stack, affecting operational reliability, scalability, and performance. Yet, the inherent challenges of decentralized blockchain development make it challenging to provide liveness guarantees at the protocol level today. As the interchain evolves and more use cases and needs emerge, the Interchain Stack steward teams are examining strategies to mitigate liveness issues at the protocol level and exploring opportunities to enhance the system's components to optimize performance.
