This will involve strengthening disability-inclusive localization through capacity sharing between local/national Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and humanitarian actors. Last week at the 31st Session of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the CRPD Committee conducted State reviews for Ghana, Belarus, Belgium, Denmark, Mauritius, and Ukraine. IDA collaborated with representatives from organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) from these six countries, who travelled to Geneva, Switzerland, to brief the CRPD Committee on their concerns, claims, and recommendations regarding the rights of persons with disabilities at the national level. From September 2-5, 2024, the AFRICAN DISABILITY FORUM (ADF), in collaboration with the International Disability Alliance (IDA) and Sightsavers, is hosting an OPD led regional event in Nairobi, Kenya, focusing on redefining inclusive development and humanitarian action in Africa for persons with disabilities. This summit is a landmark event in advancing disability inclusion across the continent. On the last day of the Summit, ADF, in coordination with IDA and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is hosting a Regional Disability Summit to have #VoicesOfAfrica at the heart of Global Disability Summit (GDS) 2025 . This unique conference brings together over 100 participants from various sectors, including governments, UN agencies, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society organizations. With OPDs leading the charge, we aim to identify priority issues for disability inclusion in Africa and formulate actionable strategies to close existing gaps.
