Our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) students in Grade 11 had an enriching end-of-year experience in their Geography course conducting fieldwork on the Worblen River. As part of their Internal Assessment, they gathered data on depth, width, velocity, and more while biking between sites and exploring the river firsthand. 🚲💧

Kindergarten to Grade 5 hosted a wonderful 'Celebration of Learning' to wrap up the school year! Parents were warmly welcomed into classrooms where students showcased everything they've learned throughout the year - from favorite books to creative writing and engaging math games. The afternoon's highlight was when Grade 4 and 5 dazzled their parents in the Music room with original compositions and songs they had mastered. It was heartwarming to witness the pride our students took in their achievements. Their joy in sharing these moments with their parents was infectious, creating a strong sense of connection and community.🌟 

We are thrilled to be members of the Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS) sports league. SGIS enables students to compete in tournaments against their peers at other international schools across Switzerland and periodically compete in international and local tournaments. Our school has competitive teams in track and field and football (soccer) for most age groups, as well as basketball in the upper school. We also offer a range of other competitive sports each school year based on student interest and coaching availability. We value an inclusive sports culture that develops social and emotional skills, molds character, and prepares our students for competition while in school and for life.

🎭✨Our Middle Years Programme celebrated the work of Shakespeare with an impressive student-led performance and engaging workshops with a guest lecturer. Our students delighted the school community with their student-led performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Afterward, our teachers and secondary students enjoyed a stunning rendition of the play at Schloss Spiez by ADG Europe/TNT Britain. Grade 7 had a special workshop with visiting guest artist Max Protzen, exploring Shakespeare through activities and games, honing their skills in iambic pentameter with lines from "Romeo and Juliet." This prepped them for their interdisciplinary assessment with mini-performances from various plays. Grade 10 also benefited from Mr. Protzen's expertise, deep-diving into "The Tempest" during their workshop and enhancing their critical thinking, communication, and collaboration for their upcoming assessments. 🌟📚

📣🏆 ISBerne Shines at Aiglon College Football Tournament! 🏆📣 Our student-athletes in Grades 3 to 5 showcased their skills at a thrilling football tournament in June. After weeks of dedicated training, our girls' and boys' teams had the chance to test their mettle against other schools. Our players displayed incredible passion, pride, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day. The girls' team celebrated standout goals, while the boys' team clinched a memorable victory with a nail-biting penalty shootout in their final match. We must give a special shoutout to our Grade 11 student coaches, who have played a significant role in guiding and inspiring our young athletes. Their leadership and talent have been instrumental, earning praise from coaches and teachers alike. It was a fantastic day filled with excitement and growth for our teams and coaches. A group of our Grade 11 students, along with Director Ms. Coates and Teacher Ms. Gavin, attended the Villars Institute Symposium—a premier event dedicated to advancing sustainable futures through the synergy of science, technology, society, and policy. This symposium unites leaders, experts, and innovators from diverse fields to tackle global challenges and forge collaborative solutions. After months of preparation for their fellowship, our students shared about their experience: "We were all excited to be involved in this inspiring event, to meet experts from around the world, and to hear about how people globally are making change happen. This experience was particularly motivating because we had the opportunity to hear from young, dedicated individuals who were able to accomplish significant things, even when the odds were against them. Thomas Crowther is a huge inspiration, and he has truly opened my mind to the aspects of biodiversity and the urgent need for action. In particular, he demonstrated how we could encourage biodiversity through 'Restor' by financially motivating farmers to increase the biodiversity in their agricultural yields. Furthermore, by participating in various workshops, we have learned about the different initiatives students have taken part in and recognized local problems around the world. Overall, we have gained so much knowledge in such a wonderful place and will always cherish these memories." #ISBerne #villarsinstitute #VillarsSymposium
