💎 The super performance of KERBEDANZ Monocrystalin high-tech sapphire 💎 At KERBEDANZ, the quest for transparency embodies the desire for purity, authenticity, and technical performance. Thus, the choice of sapphire was a de facto imperative for the production of cases for our high watchmaking creations, a perfect illustration of this. This material, almost as hard as diamond, combines aesthetics and durability. Its crystalline transparency highlights the world's largest tourbillon, the M A X I M U S G R 8, revealing the ultimate watchmaking expertise with incomparable clarity. The first successful production of sapphire was achieved in 1902 by the French chemist Auguste Victor Louis Verneuil. At that time, the aim of this development was to produce high-quality, sapphires and rubies, primarily for the watch industry as bearings for the pivots of the gears and moving parts of watch movements – which is still the case today. After diamond, sapphire is the hardest and most resistant material (9 on the Mohs scale and 10 for diamond). High-tech monocrystalin sapphire is absolutely perfectly transparent and crystal clear in the polished state, it is acid-resistant, has low electrical conductivity and a melting point of over 2000°C (2150 to 2350°C). Unalterable, it resists virtually all external influences and is perfectly suited for extremely sophisticated applications, not only in the high watchmaking industry, but also in very high-tech industries, particularly in the fields of optics, laser radiation, medicine, mechanics, electronics, etc. Today, the manufacturing process for sapphires has naturally evolved considerably and makes it possible to create much larger crystals for industrial applications outside the field of watchmaking. The current sapphire manufacturing process, the most advanced and efficient, uses the HDSM method (horizontally directional solidification method), i.e. the horizontal movement of the crucible in the heat zone. A seed crystal (or "seed") is placed at the tip of the crucible and thus transmits, during melting, to the growing sapphire, its own orientation axes - a bit like a mother transmitting her DNA to her child during gestation. This comparison may seem a bit exaggerated, but it is not so far from reality.
