Adolf was 24 years old when, as a mechanic, he developed and built machines for the scientists at Geigy (now named Novartis). He was an enthusiastic inventor and doer who loved trying out new things. Even in his spare time in the garden shed, he spent a long time working on new devices. He often had to work nights to cope with the ever-growing flood of orders and decided to leave Geigy and set up his own business. The real reason, as he amusingly confessed, was that him being a «morning grouch», he founded the company so he could decide when to start work each day.
On 1 January 1949, the company "Adolf Kühner Feinmechanik und Apparatebau" was founded in his parents' garden shed and developed many devices for various industries. His great passion, however, was working on his shaking machines, which he continuously developed and slowly became an expert in the field.
