On Monday, we co-hosted an engaging 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 at the prestigious @thedoldergrand in Zurich, bringing together enthusiasts from the longevity sector and representatives from the media industry. The evening featured a curated farm-to-table three-course meal, expertly designed by the dietitian Ella Davar from Miami, to emphasize the occasion. The menu included Omega-3 rich salmon, detoxifying green leafy vegetables, and antioxidant-rich berries. The success of the dinner was greatly enhanced by the expertise and support of the Longevity Center team, whose invaluable contributions were instrumental in bringing this event to fruition. A sense of community and shared passion is considered to be one of the contributors to our longevity; therefore, it was a joy to meet with like-minded friends from the longevity community in Zurich. Longevity Center Switzerland is very open to extending our number of partners and expanding our network of experts in Zurich and the region. Never heard of Metformin? Thomas Szucs is an expert in that field and explains the importance of #telomeres in our #podcast «The Longevity Code». In the discussion with Anna Erat (MD, PhD, IDP INSEAD) they talk about how #longevity can be achieved within the molecules of our body. But what do those words mean exactly? Here is a quick guide: ►Metformin: #Metformin is a well researched molecule used in type 2 diabetes. It is also a drug hyped by some in the longevity field. The podcast sheds more light on Metformin and healthy aging. ► Telomeres: #Telomeres are the specific DNA-protein structures that are found on both ends of chromosomes. They protect the genome from nucleolytic degradation, unnecessary recombination, repair, and intrachromosomal fusion. ► Telomere shortening: With each round of cell division, telomeres shrink. Because a telomere can only shrink to a certain degree, it is deeply intertwined with our longevity. Today’s research is still ongoing but with enough patience, the results could be astonishing. Where do you see further #potential in today’s research regarding telomeres? 👉 Listen to this episode as we talk about the possibility of a prolonged lifespan with deep insights from a leading #expert in the field! The danger of being sleepless At sea, Oliver Heer only sleeps 30 minutes at a time. During his participation in the Vendée Globe, Oliver had to sail alone across the ocean for 90 days. With no one to watch over him while he sleeps, he can only doze off for short periods of time. In the second episode of «The Longevity Code» podcast, Oliver Heer, medically sponsored by The Longevity Center Switzerland, joins Dr. Anna Erat (MD, PhD, IDP INSEAD) to explain why sleep plays such an important role in #focusing. The lack of #sleep, Oliver Heer reveals, can have many negative impacts on the brain and the decisions we are making: ► It affects the ability to assess risks and makes a person light-headed. ► Without the proper amount of sleep, a person can get into the mindset of a toddler. 👉 Sleep is essential for mental health and therefore for #longevity. With a fixed sleep schedule, the mind becomes clearer, and decisions can be made more rationally. The energy we gather during sleep is the most important energy to get through the day. Not only that, but sleep processes our impressions of the day and even affects our growth and stress hormones. 👉 Listen to this episode as we discover the importance of sleep with deep insights from a leading expert in the field! Lifelong Learning and Longevity - a Winning Combo It is estimated that 2 billion people will be 60 yrs. of age or older by 2050. Hence, not only is a redesign of our healthcare system urgently called for, but also a remodeling of our educational, employment and retirement systems. 👉 Rather than focusing all effort of education on the first 25 years of our lives, we must embrace a more encompassing model of lifelong learning also in the #workplace. 👉 To support skillful and experienced professionals in their pursuit and ambitions later in life, more focus has to be allocated to preventing chronic disease and optimizing health all together. After all, without health it is difficult to thrive at work or in society. Our medical director Anna Erat (MD, PhD, IDP INSEAD) is supporting both lifelong learning and healthy aging through our current podcast «The Longevity Code», her medical services at Longevity Center Switzerland. ► Through the fantastic mentoring program at D-MTEC ETH Zurich, she supports talented masters and doctoral students in their professional ambitions to reach their full potential. Furthermore, she will hold a keynote speech relating to lifelong learning at the ETH on 12 June 2024. ► As faculty of the groundbreaking #NEXT program at the Universität St.Gallen (HSG) Executive School, she supports highly advanced professionals to think outside the current employment models and design their lives according to the modern fabric of society and demography.
