We are honored to be at the Summit of the Future during the UN General Assembly, witnessing the historic approval of the Pact for the Future. This moment reaffirms our commitment to one of our core missions, resumed in the point 3 of the Pact: ending hunger, eliminating food insecurity, and eradicating all forms of malnutrition.

Unveiling the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) on the Right to Food Mater Fondazione is honored to announce its pivotal role in the upcoming CFS 52 Side Event titled “Implementing the Right to Food Guidelines and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Peasants in Africa and Europe: A Civil Society Perspective.” This significant event, taking place on 22 October 2024 from 13:30 to 14:45 at the UN, will mark the official unveiling of the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) on the Right to Food in the European Union. The ECI is a historic step forward in ensuring that every citizen in Europe has the fundamental right to food, aligning with the broader principles of food sovereignty and sustainable agriculture. It builds upon the long-standing work of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants (UNDROP) and the Right to Food Guidelines, which have been instrumental in shaping policies for food security and the protection of the rights of peasants, pastoralists, and Indigenous peoples across the globe. The Mater Fondazione has been at the forefront of advocating for these rights, focusing on the intersection of food, social justice, and environmental sustainability. This event will bring together voices from Africa and Europe to share their experiences, struggles, and successes in implementing these critical guidelines. We invite all stakeholders, civil society organizations, and the public to join this important discussion, led by key figures in the field, including the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Michael Fakhri, and experts from Switzerland, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, and the European Union. You might wonder why an incredible and unique place like Refettorio Geneva needs such widespread publicity around Geneva, even using old-fashioned paper posters! The reality is that many people still don't know about this great project, and it's also a good idea to refresh the memory of those who do! For example, just 50 meters from the restaurant is the Cantonal Solidarity Department, along with other social agencies. A regular citizen might assume that, out of a sense of duty, the employees of these agencies would flock to the restaurant to support the cause (and enjoy some amazing food). Yet, we never see them! Like EVER. So, no matter how close you are to Refettorio, every time you come for lunch, you're helping us change the world. Thank you!
