🔊 📕 Our 2024 Annual Report is out! During this eventful year, MENA Rights Group advanced #humanrights in the region by litigating on behalf of victims of violations ⚖️ , advocating for their rights at the UN 🇺🇳 and raising awareness on the rise of transnational repression 🗣️ . From the collapse of Assad in #Syria 🇸🇾 to the genocide in #Gaza 🇵🇸 , the fight against oppression across our region is interconnected. We are proud and honored to assist victims of #humanrightsviolations, to hold state authorities accountable and to raise awareness on issues ranging from the repression of civic space to the use of politically motivated extraditions. ✊ We are pleased that many of the individuals we defended have regained their freedom, and that our work has led to the intervention of many UN experts on ongoing cases of violations. 🚨 URGENT: 12 international human rights organizations call on Secretary Rubio to intervene in the case of Ahmed Kamel, who faces imminent deportation from Saudi Arabia to Egypt. Kamel risks torture and a 25-year sentence in Egypt for peaceful protest over a decade ago. His deportation would separate him from his wife and two young children - all US citizens. This case highlights the growing trend of transnational repression in the MENA region, where authoritarian governments collaborate to target perceived critics across borders.
