Designing and building fast, efficient, zero-emission hydrofoil boats for the high-speed craft market (HSC)
Info
MobyFly designs and delivers zero-emission hydrofoil boats that promise to change waterborne travel forever. WHAT WE DO We offer a sustainable, practical, and significantly more cost-efficient mass transport solution that will benefit operators, municipalities, and passengers alike. MobyFly's zero-emission hydrofoil boats are one of the most efficient forms of transportation in terms of energy consumption per passenger, requiring up to 95% less energy than any current diesel ferries. WHY ZERO-EMISSION HYDROFOIL BOATS? The existing market for ferries is huge: 2.1 BILLION passengers per year. It’s already as big as the commercial airline industry. When it comes to transportation, one of the fastest ways to tackle climate change is to increase our use of the natural infrastructure of rivers, lakes, and coastal waterways. Waterways are an abundant, natural infrastructure that doesn't take decades to build, consuming valuable resources, harming the environment, and costing billions of dollars. MobyFly was founded by Sue Putallaz, Anders Bringdal, and Ricardo Bencatel. This team combined their collective experience in urban and transportation planning and the design of hydrofoil boats and software systems to establish a company that would be at the forefront of zero-emission mass transportation and help move the transition to net-zero forward.

The best souvenirs and post card of the #Douro river and #Porto😎 Thanks to all our partners and the Portuguese authorities for the warm welcome and for the trust. #flyoverthewaves 🌊
Great testing of the MobyFly | Zero-Emission Hydrofoil Boats 10 meter prototype in #Porto, in the Douro river and in the Atlantic waves. This was the culmination of the #FLYPASS EEA Grants Portugal project, with integration of the Catana group Portugal production skills, the INESC TEC autodocking system, and Corvus Energy batteries. These tests refined the integration of the different technologies and showcased what automatic foiling systems, light boat structures, docking automation systems, and cutting edge batteries can do for efficient mobility and optimized operations. The tests also generated valuable knowledge for new production pre-series model that will soon start production. We are grateful for the great pictures taken by Francisco Piqueiro (#FotoEngenho).

🚢🌍 A Major Milestone for Zero-Emission Maritime Transport in Portugal! 🌍🚢 We're excited to share that our prototype MBFY10 has successfully made its debut on the Douro River! The event, held on 10th September at Freixo Marina, was a great success, showcasing the future of #zeroemission #passenger #ferries. With the integration of #hydrofoil technology and advanced fly-by-wire software, the MBFY10 proved its ability to “fly” above the water, dramatically reducing energy consumption and setting new standards for efficiency—up to 80% more efficient than conventional ferries. A huge thank you to our partners INESC TEC, CATANA GROUP Portugal, and Corvus Energy, for helping bring this groundbreaking vessel to life as part of the FLYPASS Project. The automatic docking system and advanced battery technology performed flawlessly, further underscoring the potential of green maritime transport. 🌱 Key Highlights: The vessel demonstrated its ability to reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to a greener future in a world where maritime transport accounts for more than 3% of global CO2 emissions. This success showcases Portugal’s leadership in developing #sustainable #maritime #technologies, setting a global example for clean, efficient transport solutions. A special thank you to EEA Grants Portugal, and EEA and Norway Grants, for their crucial financial support in promoting the #blue #economy and the transition to sustainable waterborne transportation. Your support is helping us shape the future of maritime innovation and contribute to a greener, more efficient world. As we move towards commercial production, we’re committed to revolutionizing the fast ferry industry with high-performance, zero-emission vessels. A heartfelt thanks to all who joined us at the event and witnessed this exciting leap toward a sustainable future. 📺 Press Coverage: In addition to the video report, more press coverage is available here: https://lnkd.in/dtVMt-P9 https://lnkd.in/d9N95TdD https://lnkd.in/dDhy9K6m #Innovation #Sustainability #ZeroEmissions #MobyFly #GreenTransport #CleanTech #MaritimeInnovation #BlueEconomy #EEAGrants #EEAGrantsPT #EEANorwayGrants #Ambiente #Environment #CrescimentoAzul #BlueGrowth #ConciliacaoIgualdadeGenero #WorkLifeBalance #Cultura #Culture #FundoRelacoesBilateriais #BilateralFund

We're most grateful to Angus McDonald and the Maritime Impulse team in Australia for featuring an interview with Sue Putallaz in their latest video. Angus and Sue discuss MobyFly's founding with Anders Bringdal (a former resident of Perth, Western Australia) and Ricardo Bencatel, as well as our mission to accelerate the transition to #zeroemission fast ferries. Sue also shares insight into the rigorous testing of our advanced foil and flight control technology in various conditions over the past two years and our ambitious plans for 2024 and beyond.
Angus McDonald interviewed Sue Putallaz, the CEO of MobyFly | Zero-Emission Hydrofoil Boats recently, and her passion and commitment to reducing maritime emissions shone through. Included in the video is some nice footage of their prototype #smartelectricfoiling vessel, and some visual ideas of where they see their platform headed (hint: much bigger!). It continues the theme that many boat builders are seeing #hydrofoils dynamically controlled by smart AI, wedded to lightweight composite hull materials, as the way forward for pushing #electrification of many maritime operations - but especially people moving. 🛥 MobyFly's first customer is in French Polynesia, so with a tourism focus, and fairly close to Australia - we might have to go visit! 😎 🌅 🏝 Check the interview out on our YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/gv2gj5Yi
