Since July, severe flooding in Chad has displaced over 400,000 people, destroyed more than 10,000 homes, and left millions in urgent need of shelter, food, and medical supplies. With Chad facing an 8-fold increase in climate-related disasters since 2010, the scale of this crisis is enormous. In response, the MSC Foundation has committed to shipping 50 containers of life-saving supplies to support UNHCR's humanitarian efforts on the ground. This partnership builds on our ongoing collaboration with Switzerland for UNHCR, following joint emergency relief operations for the Türkiye and Syria earthquake and Ukraine refugee crisis. Together, we are delivering crucial aid to those impacted. The need for global solidarity has never been greater, and we are proud to be part of the response, helping vulnerable communities recover from these devastating floods. The motor yacht Patrizia has made its first stop for the ‘Il Mare a Scuola’ campaign in Naples, where political and institutional authorities along with representatives from the scientific, cultural, and media sectors gathered to support this initiative. At its core, Marevivo is asking the Italian Ministry of Education to issue a decree implementing article 9 of the ‘Salvamare Law’, strongly supported by the MSC Foundation, ‘to promote activities in schools of all levels aimed at making pupils aware of the importance of preserving the environment, particularly the sea and inland waters’. The event will conclude tonight with a remarkable concert featuring students from the Academy of Opera Singing and orchestra professors from Teatro di San Carlo. Starting today, the MSC Foundation will host a pivotal Strategy and Planning Workshop aboard MSC Seashore, focused on the continued regeneration of marine ecosystems and coral reefs within the 64-square-mile marine reserve around Ocean Cay in The Bahamas.  This workshop will bring together leading international and local stakeholders, fostering collaboration with the aim of driving forward what we’re aiming to achieve throughour Ocean Cay Marine Programme. Central to the programme is the restoration of resilient coral-based ecosystems, the development of eco-professional expertise in The Bahamas, and the establishment of best practices for large-scale marine conservation.  As we mark five years since the programme's inception, this workshop will provide a crucial opportunity to assess the progress achieved so far, address current challenges, and design pathways for its future. 🌊 Introducing 'Il Mare a Scuola' – a campaign for ocean literacy 🌊 The MSC Foundation is proud to strengthen its long-term partnership with Marevivo by supporting 'Il Mare a Scuola,' a campaign aimed at making ocean literacy a core part of the curriculum in primary and secondary schools.  With the ocean generating over 50% of the oxygen we breathe, raising awareness and inspiring future generations to protect this invaluable resource is essential. By integrating ocean studies into mainstream education, we can nurture a culture of respect and sustainable practices for our marine environment. The campaign kicks off on 21st October 2024 aboard the historic Motonave Patrizia, visiting Naples, Palermo, Livorno, and Genoa, and engaging students, educators, and policymakers along the way.
