A year ago, I had the honour of speaking at the University of Creativity UoC in Tokyo and the Consulate of Switzerland, Swissnex in Japan, Osaka, about "Urbanism of Care" - a concept that has since become a cornerstone of my research initiative nominute.city. I am grateful to the Embassy of Switzerland in Japan and Swissnex Osaka for the opportunity to share these ideas with brilliant co-speakers and moderators, as well as our international audience. Check out the video of our talk in Tokyo here: https://lnkd.in/dRZWvAUG #UrbanismOfCare #NominuteCity #PostGrowthCities

Time isn't what we think it is - In his fascinating lecture, Carlo Rovelli takes us on a journey to show that the more general we look at time, the weaker temporality appears in the universe. In the equations of quantum physics that he proposes, there is no variable of time! Yet the closer and more individual we look at it, the stronger temporality becomes, ultimately tied to our emotions, which arise from the friction between sensemaking (past/order) and prediction. What a fascinating way to look at urban temporality! A Nominute.City whose temporal fabric is woven by emotions! #UrbanTime #Temporality #NominuteCity https://lnkd.in/d_Fkem-d

Our opening at the Generative Center in Lugano explored how urban space-time is continously shaped by collective narratives. From neuroscience to indigenous wisdom and post-growth urbanism, participants uncovered fascinating intersections between technology, ancestral heritage and our urban futures beyond efficiency metrics. Thanks to all participants and panellists to the Lugano Living Lab, the research Group in Visual Narrative at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the hospitality of the Generative Center. #postgrowthurbanism #nominutecity

📅 28 February 2024 Via Besso 42A, Lugano https://lnkd.in/dhWQbzHZ THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD PRIMARILY IN ENGLISH PROGRAMME 16:00 - Doors Open 17:30 - Dialogue 1 «The Mythological Layer of Cities Across Generations» 19:00 - Break 19:30 - Dialogue 2 «The Growth of the narrative Fabric through Post-Efficiency Scenarios» 21:00 - Beats & Social Mixing With: Isabella Pasqualini, Jan Trautmann, Axel Vogelsang, Felix A. Bachmann, Jan A. Eckert, PhD and more! A collaboration between Generative Center, Lugano Living Lab, xocolat art, hortopia.org & nominute.city Nominute.City is a research initiative introducing a new approach to understanding and designing urban livability through the lens of temporality. Rooted in phenomenological principles, the project examines the multiple layers of urban fabric: the daily experiences of urban populations, the perceptual impact of built environments, and the conceived space shaped by historical narratives. This layered approach highlights the mythological dimension of urban spaces, especially significant in the case of Lugano. Case Study: Lugano We will explore Lugano as a case study, examining how mythological layers persist in contemporary urban contexts, transcending generations and finding new resonance through emerging technologies. Particular focus will be given to post-efficiency scenarios and a multigenerational urban population, where generative narratives and creative technologies offer new temporal experiences beyond traditional metrics of efficiency and socio-economic growth. 17.30 - 19.00 THE MYTHOLOGICAL LAYER OF CITIES ACROSS GENERATIONS Contemporary cities host an increasing number of generations coexisting in the same urban space. In this context, the mythological dimension plays a key role, acting as a bridge between generations and their conception of urban space through narratives. Simultaneously, this generational diversity calls for new approaches to urban storytelling, considering varying life rhythms and different methods of telling and listening among a generation deeply immersed in digital technology. 19.30 . 21.00 THE GROWTH OF NARRATIVE FABRIC THROUGH POST EFFICIENCY SCENARIOS Automation and artificial intelligence are transforming our relationship with urban productivity and opening a debate about how to use newfound leisure time in a post-growth society. In this transformative context, there is an opportunity to explore a temporal dimension beyond the efficiency paradigm, offering a future space for storytelling and engagement with the mythological “layer” of the places we inhabit. Urban quality of life thus takes on new meanings: traditional productive efficiency is integrated with a richer, layered narrative fabric, enabling communities to rediscover and celebrate their local stories while adapting to new rhythms and modes of urban life. #nominutecity hashtag #postgrowthurbanism hashtag #LuganoLivingLab hashtag #postgrowthcities

𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 ‘𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐦’ 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫? Over the last year we have been working to introduce the Cornerstone Indicator Framework to the Canadian context. During one workshop a participant reflected that it was the first time that they had ever felt warm about indicators of success. As intuitive, multipoint indicators of the things that matter to people in their unique contexts, this is exactly what the Cornerstone Communities element of the initiative is hoping to achieve. These 5 indicators were co-designed with the Citizen's Committee of Milton-Parc and Comm-Un in Montreal, and will be actively used to elevate diverse voices and facilitate collaborative decision making. What do they evoke for you? Can you imagine using these kinds of indicators in your local community? If you are interested in designing your own indicators then we have created an open source toolkit that you can access via the Cornerstone Indicator website.  __________________________________________________________________________________ It’s been a privilege to collaborate with many brilliant people on this project, including the David Suzuki Foundation, the Citizen's Committee of Milton-Parc and Comm-Un in Montreal and Kaitlyn Ashmore from Wilfrid Laurier University.  A special thanks to Katherine Trebeck for the original concept and to Linnea Rönnquist for the co-development of the first prototype.  Vlad Afanasiev Emily Harris, FCA
