"Better Man" and his dancing ape is nominated for the Oscars 2025! Check out this breakdown by Weta FX 🔥
Filmed on London’s Regent Street and on-location in Melbourne, Director Michael Gracey’s vision for the ambitious oner shot in Better Man was brought to life with 5 digital costume changes, 5,334 frames and 500 dancers. Meticulous planning from our crew was required to match the previs, with every metre of Regent street mapped over 4 evenings in order to create the 3:42 minute musical number. #WētāFX #VFX #BetterManMovie

For the 'Event Horizon' music video, we had to create planets and our own black hole in-house, using procedural techniques. Plus, the whole video had a cartoon effect, that we did frame by frame, using a mix of Photoshop and After Effects (yes, that was before AI entered the game). But, yeah. Totally worth it.

'Not Dead Yet' - where Sin City meets James Bond! 🎬 This was a visual and musical challenge where we wanted to create a Sin City-esque aesthetic. A l'Université de Fribourg/Universität Freiburg, une jungle de câbles, de projecteurs et de matériel de tournage a envahi le site de Miséricorde. Afin d'attirer de nouveaux étudiants, la Faculté de droit a décidé de commander un petit film intégrant du stop motion. Réalisé par Duc Hiêu David Nguyen, il sera diffusé en février prochain et mettra en scène des ... textes de loi et des livres! «Le cadre institutionnel met désormais les hautes écoles en concurrence les unes avec les autres. Cette démarche s’inscrit dans ce cadre et cette contrainte. Avec cette idée artistique, nous espérons communiquer comment nous envisageons et enseignons le droit à Fribourg, à savoir comme une matière vivante et ludique», explique Jacques Dubey, doyen de la faculté.
