𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 #𝟏 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬: 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 Managing illiquid private markets investments within an evergreen structure is almost like trying to square a circle. Therefore, it is vital to have a portfolio management team that can actively manage the portfolio to harmonize potential mismatches. Evergreen funds, which typically allow for monthly subscriptions and redemptions, must manage their required capital in an effective and efficient way. To do so, a large investment platform with a broad investment funnel is required. This ensures the manager can remain diligent and selective on its decisions, investing on a relative value basis between investment types (direct, secondary and primary investments) and asset classes. In contrast, if the funnel is narrow and investment flow spotty, the result could be accumulating idle cash balances in the portfolio, potentially weighting on returns. Similarly, a suboptimal management of subscriptions and redemptions could also result in a significant cash drag. It is therefore crucial that investors understand how a manager is dealing with these components.     Following on from our recent USD 1.9 billion investment in EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure we take a deep dive into how our thematic conviction on data centers showcases our ability to spot disruptive thematic trends like Gen AI and convert them into scalable investment opportunities. EdgeCore is a great example of how Partners Group's thematic investing approach can also drive the growth of the firm's platform. By partnering with select clients on the transaction, we facilitated a larger equity investment in the company and contributed to the overall growth of Partners Group's AuM.     Partners Group has successfully completed a USD 1.9 billion equity investment in our portfolio company EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure which is a leading developer, owner, and operator of scalable, cloud-connected hyperscale data centers in the US. Headquartered in Denver, EdgeCore commercializes data center sites leased under long-term contracts to the world’s largest internet and technology companies.   The investment is the second equity capital raise that Partners Group has led since acquiring EdgeCore in 2022 and was conducted in conjunction with the firm's clients. The capital will be used for expansion across EdgeCore's existing locations and the development of its new campus.   Ed Diffendal, Managing Director, Co-Head Infrastructure Americas, Partners Group, says: "This investment in EdgeCore is further evidence of our strong thematic conviction in the sector and the Company's growth prospects.     We are excited to announce our upcoming LinkedIn series, in which we will share Partners Group's insights and lessons learned from over 20 years of investing and managing evergreen funds. As pioneers in private markets, we have led a wave of innovation and growth in evergreens, transforming the space for individual and institutional investors alike. Over the coming weeks, we will dive into the wealth of knowledge and experiences we have gathered during this time. To kick things off, here is a quick reminder of what we define as an evergreen fund. Evergreens (also known as perpetual or open-end funds) are a type of investment vehicle that enables investors to get immediate access to private markets. Investors can subscribe and redeem capital on a periodic basis, which is a key difference from traditional closed-end funds. The flexibility enabled by this structure and its attractive minimum investment requirements make evergreen funds particularly appealing to investors. To manage this flexibility, Partners Group has a sophisticated portfolio management team responsible for the composition of investments and liquidity management. In this series, we will discuss five factors that make a successful evergreen.
