📢 PeriVision an innovative spin-off from the University of Bern and the Insel Gruppe / University Hospital Bern, has received the EU CE-certification for its medical software product VisionOne, a virtual reality eye testing platform. 👁️ This 1st version of VisionOne addresses the large unmet clinical need for more efficient and patient-friendly visual field testing, a routine eye test for glaucoma diagnosis & monitoring. With over 80 million living with the disease, glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness globally. However, the current gold standard systems are expensive and very resource-intense, creating bottlenecks in clinics and limiting access for patients. This matters first and foremost for patients who loose precious eye sight, but also for healthcare systems, as studies demonstrate a significant increase in costs with disease severity (e.g. Traverso et al., 2005, Br. Journal of Ophthalmology; 89;doi: 10.1136/bjo.2005.067355). 📄 At the core of the product lies PeriVision’s patented visual field testing algorithm SORS (Sequentially Optimized Reconstruction Strategy). In clinical studies it has demonstrated the ability to reduce test time by up to 70%, while maintaining very high accuracy & correlation with the gold standard. SORS in combination with the platform's portable headset, automated workflows and easy-to-use interfaces can increase clinic productivity and patient comfort dramatically. 🗨️ Patrick Kessel, Perivision’s CEO, emphasises that the CE-certification was achieved after a substantial effort to prove the safety, efficacy, and clinical impact of the VisionOne system and in a comparatively short amount of time, also due to the know-how and excellent support by regulatory partners Effectum Medical AG . 🌐With the CE-mark in place, VisionOne will now be available to eye care practitioners across the EU, in addition to the US and UK. 🚀 PeriVision, Insel Gruppe and the University of Bern receive CHF 1.1M grant to develop new fixation-independent perimetry for retinal diseases. 🏥 The idea for the R&D project was born in the eye clinic. Currently, patients with conditions such as age-related macular degeneration or its late-stage form geographic atrophy perform poorly in functional eye tests due to central vision loss, fixation difficulty, or subjectivity in patient responses.
