Last weekend was truly unforgettable! Our team (Mae, Rishabh and myself) competed in the GenQ Hackathon in Calgary as “Team Qute” (Cute with a Q). I’m thrilled to share that we won first place in our challenge! #GenQHackathon We worked on using Quantum Machine Learning to estimate the carbon monoxide band gap—a crucial step in designing catalysts that could lead to more efficient and cost-effective hydrogen production, a cleaner fuel source. While machine learning is something I work with daily, I had minimal exposure to quantum computing before this hackathon. Tackling a Quantum Machine Learning problem was a fascinating experience for me, allowing me to apply my expertise in a whole new domain and witness the magic unfold firsthand. I’m incredibly grateful to my teammates, Mae and Rishabh, for their insights and collaboration. Huge thanks to Alvaro Ballon Bordo, Viki Kumar Prasad, Mercedes Gilroy and Antonio Peris for their invaluable guidance and support throughout this journey. Also, a big shoutout to QAI Ventures, in particular Alexandra Beckstein, David Yiptong for organizing such a great event. It was an amazing experience, and I look forward to more adventures in Quantum Computing!

🚀 Last weekend, we had the privilege of supporting the GenQ #Hackathon at Platform Calgary ☄ ! This #QuantumComputing hackathon focused on producing quantum-enabled #solutions to the 🌎 United Nations’ #SustainableDevelopmentGoals 🏭. As well, it was a great chance to expose more people to the #innovation and novel solutions being made possible thanks to the emergence of #QuantumTechnologies ⚛. 👩🏫 👨🏫 Qubo supported teams as mentors, helping participants to structure ideas and solutions into an 💥 impactful presentation. AJ even gave a talk on how to structure an engaging ⚾ pitch! After many meaningful conversations with various participants, we had the feeling of being connected; like we belong to this amazing community of innovative, brilliant, and sometimes crazy quantum enthusiasts! 🎆 It was amazing to see participation from the City of Calgary to submit a problem for the challenge: ☃ Snow Plow Route #Optimization. Sounds simple enough, but then you start factoring in variables, like ➡ one-way streets, # of passes to clear a lane, prioritizing major 🚚 delivery routes, scale of the city, transitioning between neighborhoods, etc. Actually the 🥇 1st place winners provided a solution that included syncing data with Google Maps to optimize the route. The 🏆 grand prize winners, aka the Golden Ticket Winners, were an amazing group of individuals. They focused on responsible investment and factored in a company’s sustainability score, as well as historical 📈 share price to optimize retail investment portfolios. In 48 hours they already created the 💡 idea, presentation, business plan, and an 📲 app. 🎉 Congratulations to the q-Folio Team: Brodie Paradis, Stanlee Fabian, Jigar Kanjani, Sudheer Kumar Bareedu, and the rest of their team! 🙏 Huge thanks to QAI Ventures for inviting us to participate, and for the lovely gift 🛍 bag, didn't know Switzerland made 🧀 cheese that doesn't have holes 😂! One of the first ideas Alexandra Beckstein and I had after I joined QAI Ventures was building a #GenQ movement, short for #GenerationQuantum. The concept was to start building a movement of forward-thinkers committed to leaving the world better than they found it, regardless of age, gender, nationality, political views, ethnicity, or any other issues currently dividing us as a race. GenQ would ensure that quantum advancements contribute positively to the planet and its inhabitants by connecting minds and sharing knowledge as a global community. Last weekend, we organized the first activity driven by this concept—the Quantum Computing Hackathon Calgary. I am still blown away by the diversity of thought and background that came together to create something groundbreaking, and the feedback was incredibly rewarding! Every participant, mentor, sponsor, speaker, and special guest was a winner of this event!!
