Our latest work on "Reconfigurable Living Spaces through Multi-Scale Modular Origami Robotic Surfaces" has been featured in this week’s IEEE Spectrum Video Friday! 🎥 Our team at Reconfigurable Robotics Lab has developed an innovative system that transforms passive environments into dynamic, interactive spaces using modular, multi-scale origami robotic surfaces. This technology enables environments to adapt to human interaction, offering force feedback, shape morphing, and stiffness adaptivity. Living spaces that adapt to user inputs can transform the way we engage with our surroundings and improve our daily environments. A big thank you to the IEEE and IEEE Spectrum team for featuring our work and showcasing its potential to inspire future innovations in human-computer interaction. Prof. Jamie Paik presented the ongoing work at the Reconfigurable Robotics Lab (RRL) at EPFL during ICRA@40 in Rotterdam. The project, titled Reconfigurable Living Spaces Using Multi-Scale Modular Origami Robotic Surfaces, explores how robotic surfaces can dynamically adapt their shape and stiffness in real-time to interact with users. This innovation has the potential to revolutionize the design of living environments, making them more interactive and responsive to human needs. #ICRA40 #Robotics #Innovation #Research #RRL

The Mori3 is a robot capable of changing its own shape to adapt to new environments and unseen tasks. The Mori3 consists of autonomous pieces that can connect to form large, complex, and moving systems. This video shows ten modules connected and starting flat on the ground. The robot stands up and starts walking. All of the modules are identical and functionally independent. Individually, they can only drive slowly on flat terrain, but together can create larger robots with different functionalities.
