Artist Close-Up 🔎 Let’s dive into Denis Mubiru’s art 📸🖼️ 🇺🇬✨ In his own words: “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different. This encourages me to always follow my heart no matter what. I will never follow society’s standards and norms because they do not define me. My works represent my character and lifestyle.” Denis, a Kampala-born graduate of Nkumba University, uses vibrant colors and raw brushstrokes to capture the chaotic pulse of contemporary African life. His art, bold and unfiltered, tackles urban issues like economic inequality, human rights, social divides, environmental challenges, and shifting relationships. Fascinated by movement, Denis explores Kampala’s Matatu culture, depicting the ceaseless energy of transit and change. His work has sparked dialogue in exhibitions across Uganda, Africa, and internationally, including “East Meets East” in Jerusalem (2020/2021), “Introspective Art of Contemporary Africa” in Kampala (2020), and “Paths, Faces, and Places” in Kampala (2016). *NEW ARTIST ALERT* Meet Akbar Rafiei our Painter 🇮🇷✨ In his own words: “From the very beginning of my serious activity, I liked to paint landscapes that are either abandoned or seem abandoned. I didn’t want the presence of human, even in the form of a few undefined spots or even a shadow, to be evident in my work - except in the form of the changes they did in nature and the impact they had on shaping it. This is an idea that I have followed to my new landscape works. It seems to me that man should not be considered as a part of nature and landscape, but should be done separately.” Akbar Rafiei’s journey as an artist is highlighted by powerful solo exhibitions, including the recent 2024 show at Afrand Gallery, with earlier milestones at Daryanigi Gallery (2004), Haftan Gallery (2011), and Khat Sefid Gallery (2008). His presence in group exhibitions spans decades, beginning in Karaj (1993) and continuing with notable displays at the country’s youth festival (1994) and esteemed venues such as Sihon Gallery (2002), Niavaran Cultural Center (2004, 2018), and Paul Gallery (2018). Rafiei’s work has been celebrated through various Association of Painters exhibitions (2013) and unique events in the Safavid house of Isfahan (2018) and Kharanag (2018), marking a profound impact on the artistic landscape. Artist Close-Up 🔎 Let’s dive into Ali Rasouli’s art 📸🖼️ 🇮🇷✨ In his own words: “The diversity of different events and feelings makes me create different spaces in painting, and in this way, I try to use the basics of visual arts in a way that suits the situation and the content that I want to show.” Ali Rasouli has been immersed in the arts since he was ten, studying painting, music, drama, and filmmaking at the Centre for Intellectual Development in Iran. He earned his diploma from the Academy of Fine Arts and went on to obtain both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in painting from Tehran University. A former member of the Iranian Painters Association, Rasouli has exhibited widely in Iran and internationally, participating in numerous biennials and film festivals across countries like Spain, Germany, and Canada. He is also set to serve as a jury member for the 2024 Visual Art Festival. Rasouli has showcased his work in prestigious galleries, including Laleh Gallery and Haft Samar Gallery. His latest solo exhibition, “Sweet Memories,” took place at Afand Gallery from October 1, 2023, displaying his evolving artistic vision.
