We are pleased to announce that Martin Monney, an MSc Precision Engineering student, successfully defended his master thesis on August 27, 2024. His thesis, entitled “Design of Isostatic Mounts with Improved Damping,” was conducted as part of a collaborative project with the University of Bern’s Department of Space Research and Planetary Sciences. Martin’s research plays a critical role in developing the Laser Ablation Ionization Mass Spectrometer (LIMS), an instrument designed at the University of Bern. The LIMS will be included in NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) mission, scheduled for launch in 2027. This mission aims to analyze lunar soil samples directly on the Moon, providing real-time data that will enhance our understanding of lunar properties. 🌕🔬 We are proud of Martin’s contribution to this groundbreaking project and look forward to the scientific insights that his work will help uncover. 🗣️ Strong communication skills are a vital component of successful STEM careers. The University of Bern recently held a workshop focused on enhancing these skills among our STEM students. The ability to convey complex scientific information clearly and effectively is increasingly important for professionals in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Together, with Simon Milligan and Mirko Kaiser explore how big of an impact communication skills have in the world of STEM. The workshop provided valuable insights and practical training to help students learn how to present their work to both academic and non-academic audiences. Bridging the gap between science and society not only benefits public understanding but also enhances career opportunities for our graduates. 🎓🌍 To learn more about the importance of communication skills in STEM and how our students are preparing for success, visit our latest blog post: 👉https://lnkd.in/e8SDPeuh #STEM #CommunicationSkills #ProfessionalDevelopment #UniversityOfBern #ScienceCommunication #CareerSuccess
