Today in #ElSalvador, during the national breastfeeding month, we had the privilege of seeing the impact of community health workers on the ground. As part of the #EU4SUN cooperation project, funded by the European Union and implemented by FIIAPP , 1,000 breastfeeding counselors are pledging their support this week, helping to implement the national law “Ley Amor Convertido en Alimento." This critical law ensures that every child in El Salvador has the right to breastfeed, the best start to life. Through the tireless efforts of community health workers, we are making strides towards El Salvador's commitments from the 2021 Tokyo Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit, working to reduce child malnutrition and increase exclusive breastfeeding. Special thanks to our Lead Group member, the First Lady Gabriela Rodríguez de Bukele, for her leadership in this initiative that offers invaluable resources for mothers and families around the country. Stay tuned and follow us to hear the stories of an incredible community health worker, Laura, and other #nutrition champions from El Salvador! 🇸🇻🤱🏻

As the #Paris2024 #Olympics highlight the achievements of young athletes, we must remember the millions of children unable to reach their potential due to inadequate #nutrition and vaccines. In their insightful op-ed, SUN Coordinator Afshan Khan and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance CEO Sania Nishtar emphasize how integrating nutrition and immunization is crucial for child health and a smart investment with high returns. By following examples from countries like Uganda and Somalia, we can work towards a future where all children have the opportunity to thrive. Under the theme 'Closing the gap - supporting breastfeeding for all', this year's celebrations are crucial in raising awareness of the importance of #breastfeeding for good nutrition and #equality. By supporting breastfeeding we can close the #GenderNutritionGap and #PowerTheChange for nutrition🔋. #WBW2024 The Gender Nutrition Gap SUN Civil Society Network SUN Business Network (SBN) UN-Nutrition Stronger Foundations for Nutrition Nutrition International

🚨 The #SOFI2024 report, launched today by FAO, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Health Organization, UNICEF, World Food Programme, identifies major trends in hunger, malnutrition and food insecurity in 2023 and a growing challenge to achieving #SDG2. 📈The report reveals a troubling setback of 15 years, with global undernourishment levels now akin to those of 2008-2009. While there has been some progress in areas like stunting and exclusive breastfeeding, food insecurity and malnutrition remain alarmingly high. Global hunger has plateaued for three years, with 713-757 million people undernourished in 2023—about 152 million more than in 2019. With the world not on track to reach any of the seven global #nutrition targets by 2030, the report highlights the urgency of changing the financing architecture to build stronger and more resilient food systems and tackle malnutrition. We have no time to waste: we must step up efforts and #PowerTheChange 🔋 Read the report 🔎 https://lnkd.in/et_DVFZt

The latest article from The Economist highlights how small investments in #nutrition during the first 1,000 days after conception can transform lives and make the world brainier. 🌎 🧠 The story of Kebita Naima, who endured severe malnutrition while pregnant, highlights how crucial early nutrition is for brain development. Her daughter, born amid these hardships, shows slower cognitive and physical development compared to her better-nourished brother. As Meera Shekar from The World Bank explains, the "golden window" from the third trimester to the second birthday is vital. Well-nourished brains form a million synapses a second, while malnutrition leads to irreversible damage. This underscores the urgent need for targeted nutrition investments to #PowerTheChange for a brighter future for all.
