ST launched the STM32WBA6, our first device to allow the concomitant use of Bluetooth and 802.15.4 standards on a single chip, thanks to a bump in memory. Indeed, the new wireless MCU now comes with up to 2 MB of flash memory and 512 KB of RAM. Additionally, this is a dual bank flash, thus enabling live firmware updates for mission-critical systems. The STM32WBA6 also supports a STOP2 mode, which provides even more remarkable power savings thanks to a consumption of only 5 µA (with the real-time clock on), compared to 7.2 µA for STOP1. STMicroelectronics recently hosted representatives from the Embassy of France in Singapore to provide an outlook on its long-standing presence in the country, which spans more than 51 years! Semiconductors are a key driving force behind Singapore’s economy, contributing 8% to the country's GDP, with STMicroelectronics playing a significant role. During the visit, STMicroelectronics shared insights into its advanced manufacturing activities in Singapore, focusing on the cutting-edge Silicon Carbide (SiC) power devices and innovative MEMS technologies. Additionally, STMicroelectronics showcased its collaboration with the local ecosystem, including government agencies such as A*STAR Institute of Microelectronics (we built the world’s first Lab-in-Fab through public-private partnerships to lead R&D in semiconductors), local Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to enhance their innovation capabilities and competitiveness in the semiconductor market, and local institutions to nurture talents. STMicroelectronics also demonstrated its strong ties with the French community by actively participating to the V.I.E program (we have 18 young talents located in Singapore), implementing STEM programs at the International French School (Singapore) (IFS) to teach kids about how their daily life is empowered by electronics and semiconductors, and collaborating with Trade Associations, Chambers, and the French Embassy. The STM32U3 is our first STM32 to use a near-threshold design, which boosts efficiency by a factor of four compared to our previous generation. As a result, we are already seeing customers working to update their systems with the new device because it enables them to place their products in low-access locations. Indeed, as efficiency increases, makers don’t need to replace batteries as often, making their design vastly more cost-effective and scalable. The STM32U3 also inaugurates our implementation of a coupling and chaining bridge (CCB), which, in a nutshell, further secures cryptographic key handling by using different buses.
