The European Edge #Cloud Continuum is designed to boost Europe’s capabilities by moving data processing closer to its source. This approach reduces reliance on non-EU cloud providers like Amazon and Google. Today, non-EU giants control 72% of the European cloud market, creating geopolitical risks. Current regulations (like #GDPR and the #AI Act) help, but Europe’s push for cloud sovereignty requires more than just policy. Europe’s strategy involves a federated cloud model, where smaller players collaborate to compete with hyperscalers. However, fragmentation and a €1.2 trillion investment gap make this a challenge. Decentralized tech like #DePIN can play a role in this vision by enabling smaller, localized edge servers. Streamr is already a key part of this future, offering scalable, decentralized data broadcasting. For example, Streamr can reduce load on content delivery networks (CDNs), aggregate #IoT data, and decentralize data processing, supporting a sovereign European cloud infrastructure powered by its users. 💡 The potential is there, but deeper collaboration between decentralized projects and #EU policymakers is needed to ensure these innovations are integrated into Europe's cloud strategy.
