👉 Endless Mountain of Poverty 👈 Some days, it feels like an endless mountain we’re struggling to climb. This week alone, we’ve received 12 new cries for help—9 homeless seniors, 1 homeless woman, 1 homeless teenager, and a mentally disabled homeless teen. Twelve people with nowhere to go, no place to call home, and we have nothing to offer them. How do you turn away a disabled teen? How do you say no to seniors who’ve already been forgotten? At Swiss4Afrika, we’re doing everything we can. We are the only international non-profit assisting minority homelessness in South Africa, but even that isn’t enough. Among all our initiatives, housing remains a top priority. Yet, the reality is, not all philanthropists are willing to sponsor seniors or support the building of homes. We are fighting for every life. For just 5,500 CHF, we can build a three-bedroom family home. A one-bedroom home costs 2,500 CHF. Thanks to a special arrangement with our builder, we can build 2 one-bedroom units and 1 three-bedroom home for 10,000 CHF. But to meet the urgent needs of these individuals, we need to raise 50,000 CHF to construct 6 three-bedroom units and 8 one-bedroom homes. This is more than bricks and mortar—this is dignity, safety, and hope. We cannot do it alone, but together, through UN SDG 17, we can bring shelter to those who need it most. A Heartfelt Plea for Help: Matthew's Story On October 3, 2023, a young boy named Matthew arrived at the Soli Deo Gloria Care Centre in Lydenburg, South Africa, with nothing but the clothes on his back—his T-shirt, shorts, and worn-out running shoes. At just 16 years old, he had traveled 200 kilometers by hitchhiking, with no food, no water, and no one to turn to. His mother is in a psychiatric hospital, his father in jail. For Matthew, life had become a cruel and isolating journey, with no family to support him. In his darkest hour, Matthew came to the one place where he felt safe—a place where he could find hope again: the Soli Deo Gloria Care Centre, one of the homeless shelters supported by Swiss4Afrika . This shelter, run by compassionate people who care for vulnerable children and young adults, is now Matthew's only refuge. Matthew has completed Grade 8 in the South African education system, but, sadly, there are no available school spaces for him. We’ve made a plan to ensure he can continue his education at the Soli Centre’s new multimedia hub, where he, along with five other young learners, will begin homeschooling with Impaq in January 2025. But even this small hope of a future is threatened by the lack of proper accommodation for Matthew. Right now, Matthew is living in a small tool shed on the property, with nothing but the bare minimum. He desperately needs a safe, private space—a place where he can rest, study, and heal from the trauma he’s experienced. This is where we urgently need your help. We need to raise funds to provide Matthew with a proper bedroom, and ideally, more family-style homes to offer a sense of security and belonging to other children at the centre. Here’s how you can make a difference: - A bedroom Wendy home costs 3,000 CHF. - A family-style 3-room home, which will offer the warmth of a real home to Matthew and others, costs 6,000 CHF. Today, Matthew's future is uncertain, but with your help, we can offer him a chance to rebuild his life. With over 20 years of experience in the Financial Services Industry, Mike brings a wealth of expertise in project management, business change management, and digital transformation. His leadership and insights have already made a tremendous impact on Swiss4Afrika, most notably during our successful bid for a grant from the Swiss Embassy in South Africa. In addition to his financial expertise, Mike is a health and fitness professional and the founder of FLOW Performance Coaching. Through his startup, Mike supports individuals in achieving their health and fitness goals with a sustainable approach, helping clients—from everyday individuals to world-class athletes—realize their full potential. His passion for coaching and building meaningful relationships drives his work, as does his dedication to helping others make positive changes in their lives. Mike’s diverse background, which includes certifications in triathlon, nutrition, yoga, personal training, and sports massage therapy, complements Swiss4Afrika’s mission to provide support in areas such as Community, Education, Health Care, Housing, and Sustainability. His personal connection to Africa, having worked there during his time with Barclays, makes his role at Swiss4Afrika particularly meaningful.
