Great conversations, inspiring pitches, and plenty of new connections - that’s what #MWC was all about for us this year. On stage at #4YFN, our investor Max Vogt shared valuable insights on Corporate Venture Capital: the key to success - both in investing and in life - comes down to two things: the people around you and a long-term vision. The panel on evolving CVC strategies highlighted the changing role of corporate investors, with those looking beyond short-term gains set to make the greatest impact. Swisscom Ventures is in a unique position, combining the agility of independent VC with the strength of Swisscom’s market presence. Beyond the panels, we kept the momentum going at our cocktail party at the yacht club, where over 120 guests joined us for an evening of networking, startup pitches, and great conversations. 📉 Market dips are normal but shouldn’t overshadow the resilience and innovation driving Switzerland’s startup ecosystem. According to the 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, total funding dipped by about 8%, and the number of rounds declined for the first time in over a decade. Yet beneath these headline figures lie bright spots: biotech is up 50%, and deeptech -especially in robotics and cleantech - continues to attract some of the largest rounds.   But let’s not forget: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗴𝗼 𝘂𝗽, and not every startup will succeed. A healthy market needs corrections - it’s important to keep a 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲.   At 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗺 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀, we focus on lasting impact rather than short-term fluctuations. Despite tougher market conditions, three of our portfolio companies still secured significant rounds in 2024: • Neo Medical (CHF 57.5M): Transforming spinal surgery with biomechanics and augmented reality • ANYbotics (CHF 53.5M): Enabling safer industrial inspections with cutting-edge robotics • xFarm Technologies (CHF 33.9M): Driving digital transformation in agriculture through data-driven tools   We’ve been investing since 2007 and have seen markets ebb and flow. Time and again, 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 paired with 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 leads to real returns and a virtuous cycle for the entire ecosystem.   Yes, it’s tougher now for SaaS and Fintech, but 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗜 in Switzerland are just getting started. Let’s remember 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆 - and neither is a global-scale startup scene.
