In his opening remarks, Knut Siercks, Head of Technology and Site Manager at the OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences Buchs Campus, underscored the importance of manufacturing expertise for Eastern Switzerland’s industrial landscape. A key highlight was the introduction of the 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐮𝐛, presented by Tobias Lamprecht from OST. This initiative aims to transform the existing capabilities of OST and RhySearch at the Hightech Campus Buchs into a state-of-the-art center for sensor development. Supported by Switzerland Innovation Park Ost, the Hub will provide Swiss industry with advanced resources and innovation opportunities. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐮𝐛 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞: ▫ Optics and photonics ▫ Precision manufacturing ▫ Semiconductor technology ▫ Measurement technology and sensors The importance of these topics was further underscored by two industry leaders who shared valuable insights on the benefits of research collaboration for SMEs, illustrating how partnerships with academic institutions can drive innovation. A dedicated workshop followed, where participants actively discussed the initiative’s direction, affirming its positive impact on the region. 🚀𝗕𝗼𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮!🌏 Thomas Gfeller, CEO of Switzerland Innovation, recently led a successful innovation mission to Japan and South Korea, further strengthening partnerships in open innovation and positioning Switzerland as a global hub for breakthrough technologies. The visit to Japan, supported by the Swiss Business Hub Japan team, involved meetings with prominent stakeholders, including Roger Dubach, Ambassador-Designate of Switzerland to Japan, and representatives from Sony, Trusted Corporation, and Yokogawa Electric Corporation. During a luncheon hosted by the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (SCCIJ), potential collaborations in advanced manufacturing were discussed between Switzerland and Japan. The mission also included engagements in Osaka with the Consulate of Switzerland, Swissnex in Japan I Swissnex team, where insights into the Kansai region and Switzerland’s participation in the World Expo 2025 were highlighted. Additionally, a visit to the innovative Nakanoshima Qross healthcare facility provided an opportunity to explore Switzerland’s potential contributions to healthcare advancements in collaboration with Yoshiki Sawa, the facility's President. The visit in South Korea supported by Swiss Business Hub Korea , was focused on connecting with key players in the local innovation ecosystem, including leaders from the Korea Association of Robot Industry, TIPS Town, and Incheon Technopark. Discussions centered on fostering collaboration in cutting-edge fields like robotics and healthcare, with the goal of advancing technological innovation between Switzerland and South Korea. At Switzerland Innovation Park Innovaare, the delegation explored research and technological developments in quantum technology, materials science, and medical technology. The discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between Swiss and U.S. institutions. At the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) next to Park Innovaare, the U.S. delegation was presented with the institute’s significant contributions to high-tech research. They toured the Swiss Light Source (SLS), a world-renowned facility enabling breakthroughs in areas like life sciences and materials science, and learned about PSI’s Innovation Clusters that drive cutting-edge research. At Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne Ltd. (SIPBB), the delegation was introduced to initiatives at the Swiss Battery Technology Center (SBTC) and the Swiss Advanced Manufacturing Center (SAMC). These centers are at the forefront of advancements in energy storage, precision engineering, and advanced manufacturing, with conversations focusing on future collaborative opportunities in these critical fields.
