Our CFO, Hengde Qin, recently spoke at the ESG Global Leaders Conference in Shanghai, where he emphasized the critical role of innovation in addressing global food security and climate change. With agricultural emissions expected to triple by 2050, the need for action has never been more urgent. Hengde shared his insights on Syngenta Group's commitment to driving sustainability – including our Portfolio Sustainability Framework (PSF), a fully audited system that enhances the transparency of our portfolio for stakeholders. Collaboration is essential as we work to help farmers increase yields sustainably to feed a growing global population. However, the journey is not without challenges. The lack of industry alignment on sustainability metrics continues to be a barrier. Our Value Chain team recently visited the Farm of the Future, a living laboratory at Wageningen University & Research, where advanced agricultural science meets sustainable practices. Once under water, this land was reclaimed in 1968 and now thrives as one of the most productive soils in the Netherlands. The visit showcased how a 2040 farm might function, with circular agriculture and practices like cover cropping to boost nutrient management and yields. The team engaged with Argentinean growers from the Crea Carnerillo group, observed cutting-edge potato harvesting techniques, and toured biodiversity strips with pollinator-friendly plants. This visit reinforces our commitment to sustainable agriculture, bridging research and real-world solutions through partnership and innovation. In a recent conversation with Bloomberg and Nina Trentmann, our CFO, Hengde Qin, shared insights into how Syngenta Group is navigating the current business landscape. He discussed the challenges of shifting purchasing patterns, the ongoing destocking trend, and the impact of high interest rates on inventory management. He explained how in this market environment Syngenta Group will continue to consolidate market share and enhance its leading position in the global agricultural technology field, focusing on operational efficiency, profitability, and cash flow generation. Hengde also highlighted how - since becoming CFO of Syngenta Group in December 2023 – he focused on the short- and long-term financial health of the company, with an optimal capital allocation to translate corporate strategy into action, driving long-term value creation. When asked about IPO plans, Hengde stressed that for now, Syngenta Group will look to restart the listing process, either in China or a different global exchange, when the equity and agrochemicals markets conditions are right and that the Group will remain flexible in its approach and explore several sources of funding.
