Uniting through hardship, this is a family’s journey of strength.🌟 Meet Zenaat*, a courageous Afghan woman who transformed her life through education and powerlifting. Forced to flee from Afghanistan to Tajikistan, she found strength and community in the gym. Her dedication inspired her entire family to join her in powerlifting, leading them to success at the Dushanbe Powerlifting Tournament. 🏋️♀️🏅 As the world turns their eyes toward #Paris2024, we’re celebrating the incredible stories of refugee athletes around the world, like Zenaat, who symbolize strength and determination for over 120 million forcibly displaced people worldwide. 💪#CheerForRefugees Read more: https://bit.ly/4dcswr3 📸@UNHCR/Muhammadkhuja Davlyatov

From chaos to hope, this is Hachim and Ayad’s love story. Hachim and Ayad are a young Sudanese couple who have reunited in Chad. They met at university in Sudan, dreaming of a future together. But their dreams were shattered when conflict erupted. Separated while fleeing to safety, they faced unimaginable challenges apart. Hachim was shot and transported by kind strangers. Ayad also sustained injuries during her journey. In a miraculous turn, they reunited in a hospital in Chad. After nearly a year of recovery, they moved to a refugee site, where they're transforming their shelter into a home. They’re now among more than 10 million people forced to flee the war in Sudan, but they’re not giving up on their futures and rebuilding their lives.

Imagine living in a makeshift shelter made out of clothing, wooden sticks and maybe some plastic sheeting during a storm. Aziza, Khadja, Gusura and Aisha and their families have been facing storms in such conditions. They are among hundreds thousands of refugees from Sudan who fled the war in their hometowns and sought safety in neighbouring Chad, where they now live in shelters at the border. While they may be safe from the violence here, they don’t have anything to protect them from the elements during the rainy season. "The rain kept pouring in, and I was busy keeping my children dry," says Khadija. “I had to curl up like a ball, pulling my knees to my chest and wrapping my arms around my legs, hoping the storm would pass soon,” adds Gusura. With more storms anticipated, urgent resources are required to relocate families to safer areas away from the border, providing them access to shelter, clean water, and essential services at new refugee sites.
