🎉 🎂 Today marks the 25th anniversary of the founding general meeting of the World Lottery Association (WLA), held 30 August 1999 in Oslo, Norway. The WLA was formed from the merger of the pre-eminent associations of the time representing the interests of the regulated lottery and sports betting sector: AILE, the International Association of State Lotteries; and Intertoto, the International Association of Toto and Lotto Organizations. Begun as the single worldwide lottery and sports betting association, we've been committed to fundamental goals that still resonate today including to: 🔹 Be the forum to exchange experiences and views 🔹 Strive to ensure the respect of territorial borders, and to end the unchecked use of the Internet non-compliant entities. 🔹 Enhance the skills and knowledge of its employees of members, through seminars, conferences and workshops. 🔹 Various committees will be established to help WLA accomplish its mandate. Current and past members of the regulated lottery and sports betting community alike will recognize in these themes that have underpinned our work for the past quarter century. 🗺 Today we represent the interests of more than 150 regulated lottery and sports betting organizations with combined annual revenues of more than USD 375 billion, spread across more than 80 territories and jurisdictions on all five continents. 🤝 True to the original mission, our raison d'etre remains advancing the collective interests of our members and facilitating their development through the provision of a range of lottery and betting related services. 👌 ❗ 25 years on, we have a renewed purpose, vision and mission: ✅ to be recognized as the global authority on the regulated lottery and betting sector; ✅ to uphold the highest ethical principles; and ✅ to support our members in their universal quest to raise funds for good causes, thereby shaping the regulated lottery and sports betting ecosystem into an unrivalled force for positive social impact and the public good. 🙏 We thank all our members and partners for their support and great work that has helped us become who we are today!

💡 Innovative technologies drive our industry. They enable the development of exciting, entertaining products while allowing the implementation of measures to make sure they are #responsible and #secure. 🌐 By deploying #geolocationsoftware that makes it possible to verify player locations, lotteries can be sure that the products they sell are purchased legally, and at the same time, block access from regions where online gambling is illegal. 👌 In our article, Cathryn Lai, CCO at OpenBet - a WLA Gold member, explains the importance of geolocation and how it greatly benefits our industry. ✅ Providing #responsiblegaming environments is paramount to the global #lottery industry and something that WLA members are committed to achieving. 📢 WLA assists this process through its Responsible Gaming certification. We require our members to use the platform where the entire certification process can be carried out. We provide financial support through our license for the digitalRG.com: Transforming the Lottery Sector Through Sustainability platform and by covering the cost of lotteries undergoing level 2 certification for the first time. 👍 This year, GBO a subsidiary of Lottomatica Group, the first Italian company in the betting industry - including #onlinegaming, #sportsbetting, and #retail, accomplished this goal. Alessandro Fiumara, GBO, Italy, CEO commented about the successful certification: “We are very pleased with this first certification process, which establishes a recognition of our efforts over the past few years to integrate responsible gaming actions into our business in a concrete way." 👩💻 👩💻 We heard from Ida De Sena, Regulatory Evolution, Responsible Gaming and Environment Senior Manager, and Emilia Petrella, Business Integrations Supplier Management & Communication Director at GBO Italy, about their certification journey.
