This week the Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA), our partners on the Responsible Mining Index project, are in the field in #Zimbabwe connecting with local #communities that are impacted by mining in their close proximity. The goal is to constructively engage with the residents to hear the stories on what life is like on the ground. The community is surveyed for their perceptions on #social and #environmental issues related to the mine and mining company with which they co-exist. This anonymous information will then be used as input for a stakeholder engagement event and #dialogue between the community, local representatives, and the mining company. Such work can empower the communities to proactively use their voice in identifying specific concerns and assist the mining company in effectively responding to community needs. #ResponsibleMining #RMI
