A video message from our President as we commemorate World Stroke Day. Stroke awareness is fundamental to effective action, which makes it vital to the WSO mission. There is so much we can do to reduce the burden of stroke, whether that's taking action on our individual risk factors, developing systems for screening and management of clinical risk factors, or implementing policies that make it easier to live a healthy life. We're committed to working all year round to building awareness and driving action on stroke. We know that together we can deliver the change that is needed. We can be #GreaterThan > stroke. #worldstrokeday #stroke #strokeawareness #strokeprevention #NCDs #healthforall Jeyaraj Pandian

A project is done, a manuscript is written, an original research is published, a plan to be approached and a direct benefit to LMIC and limited resource settings to be provided. and at last but not at least a credit ought to be declared. (Telemedicine networks for acute stroke - an analysis of global coverage, gaps and opportunities) the title of the article just published in the International Journal of Stroke, as a direct result of the project funded by the Future Stroke Leaders Programme cohort 2. The credit goes here to my colleagues and friends and to our leader in this project Christine Tunkl. And for sure to the valuable guidance and recommendations by the mentors of this project Anna Ranta Gisele Sampaio Silva Pawel Kiper padma srivastava @robin ohanessian And for the minds behind the future leaders program Valeria Caso Christopher Chen @werner hacke @hugh markus Julia Shapranova One direct benefit of this project for the middle and long term is the establishment of a Telestroke Committee to join the rest of the working and active committees of the World Stroke Organization for the wellness of victims of stroke in LMIC and LRS. It was a real pleasure and privilege for me to be a coauthor and a collaborator in this project and to have attend the preliminary meeting that discussed how to make use of this project and to place some bricks in the huge building of a telestroke global network managed by a scientific telestroke Committee within the WSO.

Attending the World Stroke Congress has been an incredible opportunity to connect with esteemed neurologists from across the globe! One highlight was finally meeting Prof. Deanna Saylor in person!! After years of mentorship via Zoom, she has become not just a colleague but a friend!! Her remarkable contributions to the Zambia Neurology Program and the launch of their stroke units are inspiring and impactful 👏🏽! I also had the pleasure of reconnecting with Dr. Karim Mahawish, whom I first met in 2018 at a Harvard Neurology Training Course in Boston. Since then, Karim has remained consistent and significantly contributed in grooming my stroke research journey. Cheers to more research collaborations 🤝!! It was an honor to meet distinguished experts like Profs. Bo Norrving, Stephen Davis, Dileep R. Yavagal, MD, Mayowa Owolabi DrM, DSc, FAAN, FAHA, FRCP, FAS, FAAS, Rufus Akinyemi, Vasileios Lioutas in the field of Neurology & Stroke. Their encouragement regarding our efforts to improve stroke services in Tanzania means a great deal 🙏🏾! Here’s to building connections and advancing stroke care together! #ThePowerofMentorship! #Collaborations #WSC2024 #AbuDhabi World Stroke Organization Future Stroke Leaders Programme

I want to take a moment to reflect on the last days at #WSC2024 in Abu Dhabi. After two years of hard work with the incredible Future Stroke Leaders Programme, we finally presented and published our data on global telestroke coverage. Our findings highlight significant disparities in availability, emphasizing the need for continued efforts in this area: https://lnkd.in/eh_pzctJ I'm proud to announce that our work will lead to the formation of the WSO Telestroke Committee, a testament to its importance in advancing stroke care globally. It was a joy to gather with my colleagues from the Nepal Stroke Project. With two presentations and five posters, the project's growth and the team's enthusiasm were palpable! Still... the highlight of the congress for me was the time spent with colleagues who have become dear friends over the years. These connections remind me of the power of collaboration and friendship in driving meaningful change in stroke care! Thanks to our World Stroke Organization Faculty, who made this possible with continuous support from Christopher Chen, Valeria Caso, Hugh Markus and Julia Shapranova!

🌍 I had an incredible experience at the 16th World Stroke Conference in Abu Dhabi! It was a unique opportunity to connect, collaborate, and grow within the global stroke community. Completed the last sessions and celebrated our graduation from the World Stroke Organization Future Stroke Leaders Programme program. Engaged with colleagues in the WSO Implementation Task Force meeting to strengthen global stroke care efforts. Participated in the editorial board meeting of International Journal of Stroke, where we discussed ways to push forward impactful stroke research. Joined the Global Steering Committee meeting of the Angels Initiative, a valuable forum for improving acute stroke care worldwide. As a special highlight, I’m thrilled to share the publication of the first collaborative project from Future Stroke Leaders, titled: "Telemedicine networks for acute stroke: an analysis of global coverage, gaps, and opportunities". Looking forward to continuing this journey with the WSO and contributing to global stroke care advancements. Together, we're making a difference! 💪 #WorldStrokeConference #FutureStrokeLeaders #StrokeCare Sheila Cristina Ouriques Martins Julia Shapranova World Stroke Academy Octavio Marques Pontes-Neto Valeria Caso Belén Velázquez García, MSc
