Yesterday at the Quantum Diplomacy Symposium, GESDA - Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator welcomed 71 participants from the diplomatic, academic and private sector, who all gathered to anticipate the future multilateral governance of quantum computing for the SDGs. Enrica Porcari gave an opening remark, representing OQI and highlighting CERN's support of the upcoming International Year of Quantum Science and Technology #IYQ2025 Her words of welcome showcased CERN's recognition of how the discovery of new technologies can impact society, and OQI's focus on developing tangible use cases to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs - demonstrating the applicability of quantum computing to global challenges. #CERNquantum CERN Quantum Technology Initiative

In the era when decisions are expected to be #data-driven, what is the role of quantum computing in integrating into IT infrastructure? 🔢 Usually we say ‘quantum systems have access to a state space that is exponentially large with respect to the number of qubits’. 😎 But what about no-cloning and deletion theorem ??🤔 Here, https://lnkd.in/d3wntuAG we introduce #quantum #databases within the broader context of data structures using classical and quantum data and indexing (see the pic). We introduce the set of operations that we believe are essential to operating a database in practice and that, thus, constitute the basis of our extension from classical to quantum databases. 🍿 Some technicalities: - Our definition for a quantum database consists of a balanced #superposition state storing data correlated to specific orthogonal index states in a quantum superposition. - to unlock #quantumadvantage from using databases, we recommend avoiding projective measurements in order to keep the superposition state and employ its quantum nature algorithmically - we define the database preparation operation which does not depend on the type of data written in the respective data register A big kudos to out PhD student Carla Rieger and our collaborators from CERN Quantum Technology Initiative Sofia Vallecorsa and Intel Corporation Gian Giacomo Guerreschi

Until June 15, OQI is inviting the global community to submit quantum computing use case ideas that address the SDGs! What’s next: 1. Everyone around the world can submit an idea showing applicability of quantum computing to a global challenge. OQI will support the formation building teams composed of quantum experts, domain experts and SDG experts from UN or large NGOs to develop SDG-relevant use cases with multidisciplinary expertise. 2. Up to 10 ideas will be selected based on their potential impact as well as scientific and quantum computing relevance. OQI will provide a neutral platform for collaboration to mature the selected use cases towards implementation on quantum simulators and quantum processors. It’s been an extraordinary experience to speak in front of many people at #CERN70 event, talking about the importance of CERN contribution to fundamental science as well as #technology development.
