It was no doubt an exceptional edition. Huge thanks to all dedicated participants and contributors!
This summer, I had the honor of being selected for the Children at the Heart of Human Rights program at the Université de Genève. During this intensive training period, we addressed crucial topics such as child participation, forced displacement, the right to nationality, and access to justice, all within an environment of rich dialogue with experts and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Among the many impactful activities, I also had the opportunity to attend the 97th session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child at the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and meet the Committee members. This experience deepened my understanding of the complexities and challenges in promoting and protecting children's rights. I would like to thank Geneva Summer Schools - UNIGE, especially Dr. Roberta Ruggiero, Dr. Philip D. Jaffé, and Mane Kocharyan, for the exceptional organization and for fostering such important discussions. A special thank you as well to all the lecturers and fellow participants who made this journey so insightful and inspiring. #UNIGE #ChildrensRights #HumanRights

🌞🎈 Throwback to this year’s “Children at the Heart of Human Rights” summer school. In August we welcomed a wonderful group to Geneva for the 10th edition of this course, coinciding with the centenary of the Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child. Participants had talks from children’s rights experts each day, covering a range of subjects and perspectives, as well as the opportunity to visit Palais Wilson and engage with the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child. We hope it was a rewarding learning experience for all. Massive thanks to Prof. Philip D. Jaffé, Dr Roberta Ruggiero and Mane Kocharyan for their amazing organization and direction of the course. 📚🌍 👉 Want to know more about Geneva Summer Schools? #SDG Olympiad - Innovating for the Future ✨ These 25-26 September, the Institute hosted the "Global SDG Olympiad for Environmental and Health Solutions 2024", an exciting innovative global competition empowering students from around the world to tackle real-world challenges aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals 🌟 ☝ Inspired by the UN SDGs and the principle of “leave no one behind,” the SDG Olympiad 2024 is a dynamic and decentralized global competition. Each participating university hosts its own SDG Summer School or equivalent event focused on sustainable development, empowering students to develop innovative solutions to pressing environmental and health challenges. 💡 How it worked: > Local Participation: Universities manage their own SDG events, with local juries evaluating and selecting the best teams based on available infrastructure and resources. The teams were from University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet), Université de Genève, Université Paris Cité - Learning Planet Institute, Politecnico di Milano, Rice University, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, University of Lagos, United States International University - Africa - CitSci Africa Association, NYU Abu Dhabi, Asian Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University, Imperial College London > Evaluation Criteria: Projects are assessed on their potential to produce SDG-relevant data, generate social and environmental impact, and effectively utilize Open-Science tools (software, hardware, open data, or participatory methodologies). Additional criteria include novelty, relevance, feasibility, prototype development, and presentation skills. ------- 👏 Bravo to all participants who brilliantly presented their innovative projects both onsite and online! Special shout out to the winners: Plasticonn project 👏 🙏 Thank you to the speakers and to the amazing jury gathered to ask the right questions and select the winners - not an easy task!
