🌱 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝗜𝗧 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰: 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗧   At this year's Swiss IT Forum, several important takeaways emerged around decarbonization and Green IT:   1️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 👉 While the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (#CSRD) and its associated European Sustainability Reporting Standards (#ESRS) are EU-driven, they have tangible implications for Swiss companies. 👉 Many Swiss businesses are not directly bound by these EU rules. Still, the interconnected nature of global markets —particularly with European supply chains — makes it essential for Swiss companies to consider these new regulations. 👉 Moreover, Swiss regulations are expected to increasingly align with EU sustainability standards. Early adoption of these practices will help Swiss companies stay compliant and gain a strategic advantage in the evolving market landscape.   2️⃣ 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 👉 Digital platforms are essential for measuring emissions and tracking sustainability metrics, but they are only effective when paired with an engaged workforce. 👉 True change requires investing in training, internal communication, and fostering a sustainability-oriented culture. A focus on change management will ensure that teams adopt these tools and contribute to long-term sustainability goals.   3️⃣ 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 👉 Simply measuring environmental impact is not enough. Companies must engage in predictive modeling to anticipate future scenarios and risks. 👉 Additionally, businesses need to create concrete action plans and continuously adjust their strategies using real-time data, ensuring that sustainability efforts move from static measurement to dynamic, long-term impact reduction   4️⃣ 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 👉While carbon footprints provide a focused measure of a company’s greenhouse gas emissions, Life Cycle Assessment (#LCA) offers a more comprehensive evaluation, covering a wider range of environmental impacts throughout a product’s entire lifecycle. 👉 Both approaches are necessary, but LCA allows for a deeper understanding of sustainability by factoring in variables like water use, land use, and pollution. Focusing solely on carbon emissions may lead to blind spots, while LCA pushes organizations to address broader ecological challenges. For companies looking to build more resilient, sustainable strategies, LCA goes beyond emissions tracking and delivers the full environmental picture.
