Today, the KFPE facilitated a critical discussion at the Geneva Graduate Institute (IHEID) on the role of research in addressing current crises and development challenges. Master and PhD students explored the Guide for Transboundary Research Partnerships and the parallels between research and development interventions. Key themes emerged: 📈 Development issues are deeply interconnected globally, requiring researchers to carefully navigate complex trade-offs. 🌊 Challenges are embedded in fluid, multifaceted contexts, demanding nuanced, adaptive research approaches. 🤔 Researchers must thoughtfully engage with value-laden issues and inherent uncertainties in their work. ⚖️ Accounting for power imbalances and diverse stakeholder interests is crucial for uptake and scaling of research outputs. By reflecting critically on these factors, the KFPE aims to foster more equitable, impactful research cooperation between high-income and low-to-middle income country partners. We were thrilled to participate in a dynamic and insightful panel at the Swiss Researching Africa Days 2024, where we celebrated 50 years of African Studies in Switzerland. Our session, “Features of Equitable and Effective Swiss-African Research Collaborations for Sustainability Transformations,” gathered a diverse range of experts to discuss pathways toward impactful and fair partnerships.
