A man, 34, was walking into a gas station in the 3300 block of West Harrison Street at 9:27 p.m. Monday when he was shot in the lower back, police said. He is hospitalized in serious condition.
Authorities believe one or more vandals damaged the statue, in the 1700 block of North Stockton Drive, in the early morning hours of Monday. No arrests have been made.

Deputy Chief Roberto Nieves was allegedly captured on video cutting a vehicle’s tires while wearing his police uniform, according to law enforcement sources.
Wadee Alfaymoumi was stabbed to death Oct. 14, 2023, in his Plainfield Township home. His mother was wounded in the attack. The family’s landlord has been charged. Last month, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution honoring Wadee.
A person sailing a 15-foot catamaran-style boat Sunday failed to meet a family member. A search was launched off Lake Forest, and the boat was found. Strong winds and high waves halted the search about 5:30 p.m.
The teen was on the sidewalk in the 5500 block of South King Drive around 10:30 a.m. Sunday when he was shot by an unknown person. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition, police said.
The 41-year-old was sitting in a car around 9 a.m. Sunday in the 3800 block of South Damen Avenue when a man approached and shot her multiple times in the head and chest. The incident appears to be an act of domestic violence.
The man was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, Chicago police said. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation.
