In recent years, clinical trials for the treatment of Alzheimer's have made significant strides toward the possibility of slowing the progression of the disease. Two of the most promising drugs are lecanemab and donanemab, both aimed at eliminating beta-amyloid plaques in the brain, which are associated with cognitive decline. These treatments, approved in the United States for patients in the early stages of the disease, have demonstrated a reduction in the speed of cognitive decline by 27% to 35% in phase III clinical studies. Donanemab, for example, was authorized in 2023 and has shown to reduce the risk of progression to advanced stages of Alzheimer’s by up to 39%. However, these treatments are still under review in Europe, and their efficacy depends on early diagnosis, before the disease has caused severe brain damage. Additionally, the development of oral medications, such as ALZ-801, offers new hope, as there is a goal to simplify treatment to make it more accessible, although more long-term studies are still needed to evaluate its safety and effectiveness. These advancements highlight the importance of clinical trials, which not only assess the efficacy of treatments but also contribute to improving early diagnosis, a key factor in maximizing the benefits of available therapies (65yMas) (BarcelonaBeta) (Quirónsalud). #ClinicalTrials #Alzheimer #TheraResearch
