Muna Kalati is an EdTech organisation dedicated to enhancing African children's literacy through relevant content.

About us

Muna Kalati aims to engage with the community of young Cameroonians & Africans. We believe in promoting African Children’s books in all their diversity. Books can be fun, literary, issue-driven, educational, light-hearted, historical, confrontational, unusually constructed, illustrated, or a fascinating combination of these and many more styles. We believe books should be read and enjoyed. Founded in 2017, Muna Kalati was created when Cameroonian and African children’s books were and are still being poorly represented, promoted, and African authors and illustrators remain virtually unknown. In September 2018, we launched the first edition of our e-zine, Muna Kalati Magazine, an online magazine and promotional platform for writers, publishers, and illustrators of children’s and Young Adult books, as well as librarians, teachers, editors, publicists, and parents. It contains valuable information on African and international publishing markets, opportunities, competitions, courses, conferences, and festivals, along with interviews with industry professionals, writing tips, and special features, where creators share the story of their path to publication. Book reviews, resources, and select articles are available on this website. Throughout the year, Muna Kalati works in partnership with authors, illustrators, publishers, booksellers, and other organizations in the children’s book world to bring words, images, and stories into the hearts and minds of children and adults. African children’s literature enriches our continent and reaches children across the world through international editions. Our Vision is to be the premier voice on literature for young Africans and to inform, promote critical debate, foster creative responses, and engage with and encourage African authors and illustrators to produce quality literature. Through these efforts, we are nurturing a literate and creative society.

𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬 In the spirit of aligning the Muna Kalati App to address the greatest needs of publishers and authors, Muna Kalati’s team on Friday held an interactive session with a group of publishers and authors. Participants included Chigozie Mbadugha, Anlika Diru, Elsie Dennis Oghenekaro, Izehi Anuge, Nwaogu Mary-Joan, Adeyemi Adebiyi, Vivian Etim, Stephen Achinoyi, Joy Akinola, Olukorede Denton, and many others. These professionals, part of the Nigerian Publishers and Authors Network, were taken through a demo session of the Muna Kalati App. The app represents a breakthrough, offering a centralized platform for creating, distributing, and marketing African content to a wider audience. The participants engaged in discussions, asking questions and sharing ideas. The key takeaway from this session was the importance of collaboration between publishers and authors to tackle the issue of poor foundational #literacy skills among young readers in #Africa. This engagement marks the first in a series of planned interactions with #publishers and #authors, as the Muna Kalati team continues its efforts to bring the #MunaKalatiApp to life.
