🌎#COP16 | Billed as the 🌿biodiversity equivalent of the Paris Climate Accord, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) aims to halt and reverse biodiversity and nature loss. Its goals and targets include addressing the USD700 billion gap in annual biodiversity funding by 2030. 📰NEWS | To support the expansion of ENGIE’s clean energy assets in AIIB members Poland and South Africa, AIIB has joined IFC - International Finance Corporation and Proparco to provide a green sustainability-linked loan facility. 🌎#COP16 | As a bridge between public and private financing, there is a role for multilateral development banks (MDBs) to help overcome identified barriers to investing in nature as infrastructure (NAI) and nature-based solutions (NBS) by demonstrating a holistic, systems-based approach to nature and biodiversity, contributing knowledge, derisking investments and mobilizing further funding. AIIB’s new report, 'Investing in Nature as Infrastructure: The Opportunity,' presents high-level opportunities for investing in nature as infrastructure through innovative public and private financing instruments.

#WashingtonDC | In the presence of H.E. the Vice Minister of Finance and AIIB Board Director, Abdulmuhsen Alkhalaf, #SFD CEO Mr. Sultan Al-Marshad signed a MoU with the President of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Mr. Jin Liqun. The MoU aims to unlock avenues for development cooperation and facilitate the exchange of shared expertise and knowledge. The signing took place on the sidelines of the 2024 #WBGmeetings & #IMFmeetings. The MOU seeks to unify efforts toward innovative financing mechanisms in sustainable infrastructure and vital sectors, through the exchange of knowledge, best practices, technical support, and strategic plans between both sides. Meeting on the sidelines of the #WBGMeetings, the Heads of MDBs reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration and working as a system to deliver greater impact and scale for the benefit of clients. Following their last meeting in September 2024, the leaders reviewed progress on the implementation of their Viewpoint Note and discussed opportunities for deepening engagement. Ahead of CEB - Council of Europe Development Bank taking over the rotating chair of the MDB Heads Group in December, AIIB President Jin Liqun thanked Inter-American Development Bank President Ilan Goldfajn for his strong leadership and remarkable coordination efforts over the past year. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gFy3GhAN

In 2023, Brazil updated its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and climate ambitions, aiming to reduce its emissions by 53% by 2030, with the potential to become the first G20 nation to reach net zero while creating jobs and spreading prosperity. “We would like to work together as a system to mobilise private sector resources for meaningful investment, which could take on the challenges of the present world.” The multilateral development bank (MDB) reform agenda has been under discussion at the Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C. this week. These institutions have a crucial role to play in mobilising financial resources for development. As part of our MDB Leaders Series, this month we hosted the inaugural President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Jin Liqun, for a far-reaching panel discussion about key aspects of the MDB reform agenda: 💰 Creating an enabling environment for private sector investment. 🌱 The importance of welding climate financing into infrastructure development. 🤝 The crucial role of trust-building in successful global partnerships. 📅 A need for effective human and financial resource planning. 📢Ahead of the official launch of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty (Alliance), scheduled to take place concurrently with the G20 Brasil 2024 Leaders Summit next month in Rio de Janeiro, AIIB President Jin Liqun joined peer MDB Heads to celebrate the membership of international financial institutions, including AIIB, in the Alliance. 📍At the invitation of Ministério da Fazenda Minister Fernando Haddad, this symbolic meeting of the leaders was held in Washington D.C. during the fourth and final meeting of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors. 🌐As one of the key initiatives delivered by Brazil’s G20 presidency, the Alliance aims to raise resources and knowledge for implementation of public policies and social technologies that are proven to be effective in reducing hunger and poverty around the world. 💬Commenting on the occasion, President Jin said, “The AIIB is proud to be an anchor partner in this groundbreaking initiative under the Brazilian G20 Presidency.
