As we celebrate 30 years of ASSA ABLOY, we are proud to recognize colleagues who have built a long career with us. One such colleague is Jan Skærup, Business Unit Manager at Entrance Systems’ Business Segment Industrial. This year, Jan is celebrating his 40th anniversary in the industry. Jan started his career as a plumber and soon moved into production, eventually becoming an installation manager. Jan’s journey with us began when the company where he worked for, Faltec, became part of the ASSA ABLOY Group. Jan’s business unit has a great record of retaining talent, with many colleagues staying for decades. When asked about the key to success, Jan said: “people run this business. Without them, we have nothing.” He stressed the importance of continuous training and social events like the bi-annual company party, which everyone looks forward to. As a leader, Jan makes it a point to know everyone by name and personally congratulate them on their birthdays. “The most important aspect of leadership is respect. We treat everyone fairly, and no one gets left behind”. As he nears retirement in a few years, he hopes to stay connected with his old colleagues and perhaps close this exciting chapter with a small party. #creatingaccess #accessolutions #togetherwecelebrate30

Meet Ru-Yang Tan, a newly minted Product Management Specialist at Opening Solutions New Zealand. “A perfect day at work is a good mix between meetings and collaboration work with the team and clients where I can learn and contribute to the projects we are developing together and some independent time to get work done. On a day off, the perfect day is playing some frisbee, spending time with family and friends and if that includes hiking and camping, then even better” Ru says. Ru has worked several years with the New Zealand engineering team before taking on this new role where he manages the product lifecycle planning and implementation process and technical assistance for OEM, digital and some smart products. To do so he works in closely with colleagues around the world. Ru was integral to the development of our recently launched Induro 4-point lock and worked on the concepts for our future sliding digital door lock. He will now product manage some of them through to and beyond their launch, which is a great evolution to experience. “I’m very excited about diving into the product management space and building my knowledge to become an expert in the field. I find the mix of technical expertise; stakeholder management and the commercial aspects of the business really intrigue me” he says. Ru is also passionate about ultimate frisbee and has competed (and won) in several competitions. “I've been selected to represent New Zealand in Ultimate Frisbee in the upcoming World Ultimate Championships 2024. Of the 3 divisions (Opens, Womens and Mixed), our team will be competing in the Mixed Division. The Mixed team's name is Mānuka, named after New Zealand's native tree” he says.
