China mobile is one of leading 5G slicing deployment operator.
It's very honor to chair 2nd GSMA/CCSA 5G slicing workshop. Really appreciate Gosden Paul, Kay Fritz, Florian Leon Schmitt from GSMA , and also Masafumi Watari from KDDI Han Li from China Mobile, Shuzhen from China Telecom, and so many mobile phone vendors who has achieved great milestone for the 5G slicing. There were many success experience of 5G slicing 2B use case deployed in real world already, and big changes from 2024 is 2C mobile phone has started to support 5G slicing URSP, all 3 kinds of operating system for handset has supported 5G slicing URSP natively, it almost needs nothing change from mobile phone vendors. I am also humble to moderate the panel discussoin among leading operators in this world, Florian Leon Schmitt from DT, Hao Zhang from china mobile, Shuzhen from china telecom. the recollection during this panel disucssion summarized here: 1) Operators still get used to per user charging, they understand per application slicing has some issues such as privacy, but still they would expect sometime migrate from per traffic category into per application. 2) Today operating systems‘ implementations of 5G URSP are differnt from 3GPP spec, which may cause some potential issues during operators interoperability and configuration, they would exepct this issue could be resolved. 3) There were some exisiting solutions such as ACL during the core could resolve the issue "Free riding" of 5G slicing, such issues should be considered during 1st day deployment of 5G slicing. 4) Regarding to 5G slicing working process, for 2C, operator expect the subscriber could order the service from operators portal, for 2B2c, enterprise could also order the service from operators portal. 5) The difference between private network and 5G slicing, the simple configuration and cheaper investment of 5G slicing do have some strength, but 5G slicing could also support some level private network capability, it could be complement each other. We are expecting that next March 2025 , the 3rd GSMA/CCSA 5G slicing will discuss many more practical issues.
