Costello Medical are excited to be continuing our strong engagement with ISPOR—The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research at the upcoming European conference in Barcelona from 17th–20th November. We’re delighted to have a team of 22 people attending the conference, including experts from our evidence development, market access and health economics services, as well as representatives from our dedicated MedTech, rare diseases and health policy-focused teams. We also have a dedicated representative from our Technical Innovation and Development team attending. The HTA landscape in Europe is undergoing a significant shift, with the introduction of the Joint Clinical Assessment (JCA) from 2025. We are pleased to be presenting 16 research posters at ISPOR Europe 2024 led by Costello Medical authors, as well as collaborating with clients on several other research topics. We are delighted to be running two issue panels at ISPOR Europe 2024, Barcelona! In our second Issue Panel, Siddharth Ramanan will lead a discussion exploring social media listening (SML) as a medium of patient-centric real-world data. Siddharth will be joined by Mary Jo Lamberti (Tufts University, USA) who will highlight the architecture, logistics, skills, competencies and change management plans required to support SML-type big data analysis, the role of AI/machine learning from a clinical development/operations perspective, as well as opportunities and challenges for RWE generation. Jackie Cuyvers (CEO, Convosphere) will then delve into the intricacies of SML, how SML studies are conducted and the role of AI/machine learning, and where SML may contribute to impactful RWE generation. Finally, Jeanette Kusel (Programme Director for Methods Research, NICE) will discuss evidence standard frameworks and benchmarks for digital health technologies such as SML, where SML may be most helpful in HTA, as well as hypothetical use-cases and considerations for submissions involving RWE from SML-type media. We are delighted to be running two issue panels at ISPOR Europe 2024, Barcelona! Following withdrawals of gene therapies by for-profit manufacturers, Kate Hanman will moderate our first issue panel discussing whether non-profit-led gene therapy development and commercialisation could promote more affordable and sustainable access. Kate will be joined by Dr Mohit Jain, who will summarise the challenges associated with gene therapy development and commercialisation from a manufacturer’s perspective. Professor Claire Booth will explain how new initiatives could help non-profit organisations develop and commercialise gene therapies more affordably and sustainably. Mr Bob Stevens will describe the patient perspective on the impact of gene therapy disinvestment and for-profit versus non-profit gene therapy development. The panellists will debate whether for-profits or non-profits have the required resource and expertise, and how these organisations might be able to navigate the upcoming EU Joint Clinical Assessment (JCA). To celebrate National Child Health Day, we’re delighted to share our collaboration with Cure Kids, a non-profit programme under Shiyu Children Foundation that is dedicated to raising social awareness and garnering support for children with cancer. In 2023, they sought our support to help bridge the information gap between local and global communities. In response, we used our scientific writing expertise to develop a series of eight high-quality journal digests in Chinese, summarising the latest breakthroughs in paediatric oncology research for dissemination to healthcare professionals and caregivers (e.g. parents) via their WeChat platform. The initiative was a resounding success with over 10,000 views, effectively facilitating knowledge sharing and supporting the Chinese paediatric oncology community to better understand the diseases and cutting-edge treatments. This marks our second collaboration with Shiyu Children Foundation, and we are delighted to strengthen our partnership and continue to work together. We are proud to work on projects like these, free-of-charge, that allow us to utilise our expertise to support and empower charities and non-profit organisations.
