On December 18, Consulate General of the Netherlands in Guangzhou successfully hosted a film screening of 'Trees in my Fields'. Welcomed by Consul General Efstathios Andreou, guests attending the movie screening came from the South China Agriculture University, Zhongkai University, Forestry Bureau, Agricultural Bank of China, etc. and left inspired and educated about agroforestry as a sustainable way of agriculture. In the movie, filmmaker Joris van der Kamp followed agroforestry pioneers in Belgium and Northern France during the four seasons. He documented how integrating trees and shrubs into agricultural systems can not only restore biodiversity and ensure food security but also contribute to a better quality of life. The Netherlands, as a global leader in livestock farming, modern horticulture and fisheries, also actively advocates sustainable agriculture. Agroforestry is not only essential for sustainable agricultural productivity, but even contributes to a richer biodiversity, clean water, healthy soil, safe foods, and air quality!

Karel van Bommel had the honor of giving a keynote speech at the 2024 #WorldForestryIndustryConference as one of the importing countries. He highlighted the importance of sustainable forest management and our efforts to combat deforestation. As the second biggest EU importing country for wood and wood products, he presented the EU Deforestation Regulation to the forestry industry, as they have to comply with the EUDR when exporting to the EU and the Netherlands. Since China is also a major trading hub for timber from neighboring countries, he addressed that this timber also has to comply with EU import requirements. Netherlands Agricultural Network
