1st Ground-breaking ceremony for the Stadtwerke Bayreuth headquarters 👏 The ground-breaking ceremony for our new building project in Bayreuth was held on 8 August 2024. In addition to Lord Mayor Thomas Ebersberger and the responsible persons of the city of Bayreuth, our architect Thomas Mondong from Hamburg was also on site. A narrow administration building consisting of two modular structures will be built on the tip of the site in accordance with DGNB guidelines. The special feature of this project is the timber-concrete composite construction and the transparent urban loggias, which clearly visualise the idea of sustainable and synergetic working in the city. In combination with the existing switchgear building, an attractive forecourt and entrance area will be created for the new headquarters of Stadtwerke Bayreuth. We are looking forward to the coming construction phases and look forward to moving this project ahead. One of our many projects on campus is currently under construction again on the grounds of Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB). We are planning the so-called NA complex, which originally dates back to the 1960s and is a heritage-protected building, in close cooperation with the responsible authorities. The project fits in with our other projects at the Ruhr University and will also fulfil modern requirements for research and teaching. The NA complex will not only be functionally and technically up to date, but will also offer attractive areas such as a cafeteria and a library that can be used by various faculties. These facilities are intended to improve the orientation and accessibility of the campus and significantly increase the quality of stay. In addition to the work on the NA complex, we were also involved in other important RUB projects. These include the refurbishment of the IA, IB and IC buildings and the construction of the Research Centre (ZGH). One particular element of this project is the ‘Grüne Magistrale’. This newly designed green axis connects different parts of the campus, creating a coherent and attractive route. In addition to improving accessibility, the ‘Grüne Magistrale’ promotes interaction and recreation through generous seating areas. How can the "Hamburg Areal West" project unite tradition and modernity in a sustainable way? Our ‘Areal West’ project in the Altona district marks the final section of Hamburg's ‘pearl necklace’, which stretches from the fish auction hall to Övelgönne. This area, which is characterised by the traditional fishing industry, will unite tradition and modernity with our planned new development. Urban design & functions: The charm and history of the site should be preserved and integrated into the modern design. Our design for Areal West includes a diverse mix of uses that will revitalise the area and create a new centre for residents and visitors. At the heart of the neighbourhood, we are planning an open market hall that will expand and modernise the traditional fish and delicatessen offering. This market hall will be open seven days a week and will offer local specialities and artisan products in addition to fresh food. In addition to the market hall, the area will be complemented by studios and residential buildings that promote creative and urban life. The residential buildings will be positioned on a flood-proof plinth. Further buildings with catering, retail and offices round off the concept. A studio alley will further enliven the neighbourhood and offer artists and creative people space to develop. Schellfischplatz will be transformed into a central market square on the Elbe, inviting people to linger and enjoy themselves. The building heights are carefully adapted to the surrounding buildings in order to preserve the existing visual axes to the Elbe. Access to the parks on the banks of the Elbe has also been retained, which strengthens the recreational character of the area. A continuous riverside promenade along the Elbe will make it possible to experience the water up close and further increase the attractiveness of the area. Green concepts: Our architecture favours sustainable construction methods and innovative solutions. We are planning buildings with photovoltaic systems, green façades and roofs and effective water circulation systems. The mobility concept for the area places a special focus on cyclists and pedestrians, which will relieve the public space of cars and create a pleasant, safe environment. Project for: HHLA Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG

Allianz Park Stuttgart recognised with the Merit Award at the Chinese Real Estate Design Award 2024 The Chinese Real Estate Design Award (CREDAWARD) is an international architecture prize awarded in China that honours outstanding achievements and innovations in the field of real estate and architectural design. The award is presented to architects, design firms, developers and other professionals, setting global standards for the industry. Our Allianz Park project in Stuttgart was honoured with the Merit Award as a remarkable example of pioneering property and architectural design. Covering an area of 170,000 square metres, this park creates a sustainable, user-friendly and modern office space for 4,500 employees. The architectural design of the Allianz Park in Stuttgart is characterised by its innovative design and harmonious integration of different structures. A central solitary building is surrounded by organically shaped, lower 'satellites' that are connected underground. These structures have rounded floor plans that allow them to merge into an architectural unit. A horizontal glass façade envelops all the buildings and offers an unobstructed view of the surroundings. The park at the heart of the complex, with a 100-year-old oak tree, refers to the company's rich history and its strength and reliability. At the same time, this natural monument marks the central main entrance, the plaza. The plaza serves as a reception hall and event floor, from where employees and visitors are distributed to the individual areas of use in the building. Allianz Park is being developed by Allianz Deutschland AG as part of a comprehensive sustainability concept. The aim is to achieve DGNB Platinum certification, supported by photovoltaic systems on the roofs, a geothermal system to utilise geothermal energy and concrete core activation to improve the indoor climate. Another key factor is the positive impact on the urban climate thanks to the decision to have several buildings at different heights and their staggered arrangement, which allows air to flow freely into Stuttgart city centre. In Stuttgart-Vaihingen, a new building complex is being built on an area of 170,000 m² for Allianz AG, one of the largest insurers in the world. The new headquarters is scheduled for completion in 2025 and will provide space for around 4,500 employees. On the construction site, it is clear to see how the façade is taking shape and almost completely enveloping the building. The interior work is also making considerable progress and is in full swing. Further information about the project: Three individual buildings are grouped around a 100-year-old oak tree like a campus. A high-rise building, as an integrated solitaire, defines the central main entrance with the oak tree and thus emphasises the new location. The basement, which connects everything, with its central uses such as canteens, event and sports areas, offers the meeting and communication areas necessary for a modern company today. Allianz Deutschland AG is realising a complex sustainability concept with Allianz Park. The aim is to achieve DGNB platinum certification. Photovoltaic systems are installed on the roof surfaces, a geothermal system uses geothermal energy and concrete core activation helps to optimise the indoor climate. A key aspect of the Allianz design is its positive impact on the urban climate. This includes the decision in favour of several buildings at different heights instead of one compact large building, the rounded shape of the individual buildings and, most importantly, the staggered arrangement of the buildings on the site. These measures enable the best possible and unhindered air flow towards the city centre. Photo: ©Niels Schubert

Hot cities: climate-resilient construction as the key to adaptation. Increasing urbanisation and climate change are causing cities to become hotter and hotter. These so-called "hot cities" pose a challenge, as extreme temperatures affect the quality of life of residents and put a strain on infrastructure. In the current issue of SOUQ magazine, Thomas Lücking explains how climate-resilient construction can be used to respond to this development. Through climate-resilient construction, buildings and urban structures can withstand the effects of climate change and at the same time contribute to reducing heat islands. One example of this is the King Fahad National Library, which is characterised by an ornamental façade consisting of rhomboid-shaped textile sails. While traditional Saudi architecture often screens out natural daylight and sunlight and requires artificial lighting inside, the unusual façade structure specifically regulates the high levels of solar radiation. The roof zone is also part of the lighting system. It is equipped with narrow skylights and white plastic membranes that reflect direct sunlight and allow filtered daylight to flow into the interior in a controlled manner. Layered ventilation and floor cooling are particularly important for the interior. Only the lower three metres, which correspond to the actual occupied area, are kept at a pleasant temperature. Together with the square in front of it, the King Fahad National Library represents an unusual combination of traditional construction and climate and energy-sensitive design.
