On October 15, jing wang, Vice President, North Asia, of our organization, was invited to the grand opening ceremony of McDonald’s Meisha Vanke Restaurant in #Shenzhen. This restaurant is located in the innovative, near-zero-carbon community "Biosphere 3 — Dameisha Vanke Center Carbon-Neutral Experiment Park". It is designed to meet #LEED Zero standards and is set to become China's first "Four LEED Zero" restaurant, achieving LEED Zero certifications for Zero Carbon, Zero Energy, Zero Waste, and Zero Water. McDonald's China continues to push the boundaries of green restaurant models, with the Meisha Vanke location leading the way. To mark this milestone, McDonald's partnered with The Pinkfong Company's Baby Shark to release a theme song and music video dedicated to the green restaurant, encouraging consumers to embrace a low-carbon lifestyle in a fun and engaging way. Amid the celebrations, Ronald McDonald was present to share the joy of this innovative opening. Since 2018, McDonald's China has built new restaurants according to LEED standards, and out of its 6,500 restaurants nationwide, over 3,300 are now LEED-certified. The Meisha Vanke Restaurant is a new benchmark of McDonald's green initiatives. It is entirely powered by solar energy from the rooftop panels in the park, resulting in near-zero carbon emissions. The restaurant also practices comprehensive waste sorting and recycling, utilizing "black soldier fly food waste treatment technology" to bio-process food waste, making it a waste-free operation. Additionally, rainwater collection and recycling systems ensure that kitchen water is reused, maintaining a zero-water footprint. The restaurant also introduced "carbon-sequestering bricks," with 23m³ of brick walls sequestering 380kg of carbon dioxide—the equivalent of what a palm tree would absorb over 37 years. During the ceremony, Jing expressed her excitement, saying, "Over the past six years, we have had the honor of witnessing McDonald’s China break new ground in sustainability. LEED Zero has become a symbol of excellence in green buildings, inspiring other environmentally conscious companies to go further. We're delighted to see consumers engage with McDonald's China's green restaurant concept, and we hope that in the future, more people will focus on sustainable buildings and adopt low-carbon living practices." #LEEDinChina #greenbuildings #netzero #sustainabledevelopment
