We are incredibly proud to present the design for the new Sentry Bridge at the entrance to Watkins Glen State Park in New York! Designed by a team led by #sbp and Snøhetta, this next iteration of the Sentry Bridge will replace a historic arch structure originally built in 1908. As the entry point for over a million park visitors a year, New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation tasked the team with creating a new enduring symbol for the park. The new stainless-steel footbridge is a #lightweight evolution of the former arch bridge and alludes to the curved form of the previous structure with a half-arch design that disappears behind the rocks, leading visitors into the mystical Gorge Trail beyond. Last Friday, #sbp celebrated the inauguration of the new Danube Valley Bridge in Linz together with Baumann + Obholzer ZT GmbH and gmp von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects. The completion of the bridge, which was built as part of the large-scale project "A 26 Linzer Autobahn", was honored with a big event hosted by ASFINAG. The highway bridge is part of the new four-lane western bypass of the city of Linz and connects to the existing traffic network in the north and south. We feel incredibly proud that this 305 meter long world-record holding suspension bridge is soon ready to open to traffic thanks to our innovative design. We are thrilled to see this exceptional project completed! On Tuesday, October 29th, at 7 PM, the first of three events in the lecture series Jour Fixe "Alles nachhaltig! - Faktencheck Bauwende" will take place. The series is organized by the Department of Architecture at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart in cooperation with the Architektur-Forum Baden-Württemberg. For the first event, Reiner Nagel from the Bundesstiftung Baukultur and Eva Dietrich from Architects4Future will be the featured speakers, discussing the themes of building culture and the transition in construction practices. Last month, Heinrich Hummel, Structural Engineer at #schlaichbergermannpartner, hosted a tour of the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg together with HSV representatives. The event was part of this year's excursion, which was organized by the Universität Stuttgart – Institut für Baustatik und Baudynamik (IBB). During the tour, the students learned about the principles of the spoked wheel structure used for the stadium roof. With the help of detailed drawings, the construction methods and calculations for the project were also illustrated. #sbp designed the stadium's membrane roof in 1998 and executed the renovation, which was completed this year for the 2024 European Football Championship. The new Ralph Wilson Park Bridge in Buffalo is up – it only took 12 hours to install the pedestrian and cyclist bridge designed by #sbp. During one night, it was lifted into place using a system of gantry cranes placed at each of the bridge’s abutments. We are very excited about this major milestone and can't wait for the next steps!
