🚨 Beware of Phishing Scams! 🚨
We have been made aware of recent phishing scams in Hong Kong SAR involving the impersonation of WeChat/Weixin customer service staff via bogus phone calls, FaceTime, and even phishing SMS messages that use the same Sender ID used for sending WeChat verification codes.
The scammers lured users into paying for a “million dollar guarantee” service, which is actually free of charge. They also falsely claimed that the users had activated certain payment services and that fees would be deducted every month unless they were cancelled, or they claimed that such services were about to expire and payment was required for renewal, threatening that the user's credit rating would be otherwise affected.
We would like to remind all WeChat users to be alert to these phishing scams and take necessary precautions to avoid falling victim.
🔎🔎🔎 Remember:
1. Do not click on unknown links.
2. WeChat customer service will never reach out to users without first receiving a request, such as through the WeChat app or via help.wechat.com.
3. WeChat will never send SMS messages asking users to enter personal information, provide bank account information, passwords, or make payments or transfers.
4. Never share your SMS verification codes, credit card CVV2 codes, 3D Secure codes, digital wallet payment passwords, bank account information, or banking passwords with anyone.
