Meet Joaquín, our Spanish-speaking travel designer, who believes that the best journeys are those that connect you with people. Growing up in Liaoning, in northeast China, he discovered his passion for travel and went all the way to sunny Cuba to perfect his Spanish. While wandering the lively streets of Old Havana, Joaquín realized that the true magic of travel isn’t just about the places—it’s about the people. That experience inspired him to help others discover the depth and richness of different cultures. Now based in Beijing, Joaquín brings that same passion to every journey, crafting experiences that go beyond the ordinary—from arranging private Tibetan blessings to meals with local families in remote villages. And here’s a fun fact: Joaquín is also an amazing Chinese cook! 🍜 Read our full interview with our amazing Spanish-speaking travel designer! #WildChina #TravelDesigner #VisitChina #ChinaTravel

Our founder, Mei Zhang, has been named a Condé Nast China “Mover & Shaker” of 2024 for her pioneering approach to responsible travel. Back in 2000, nearly 25 years ago, Mei started WildChina with a clear mission: to change the way people experience China. She believed in travel as a force for transformation—not only for those who journey but also for the destinations they visit. Mei wanted to create experiences that go beyond top attractions, fostering a deep connection to the country, its people, and its traditions, while also making a meaningful impact on local communities. This vision has shaped WildChina into a leader in responsible tourism, creating experiences that honor China’s heritage while cultivating genuine connections. This recognition from Condé Nast is a tribute to Mei’s vision, hard work over the years, and commitment to responsible travel. #WildChina #VisitChina #ChinaTravel #MeiZhang #CondeNast Learn More: https://lnkd.in/eRYfvTw6

It was a busy weekend for our team. In Beijing, Andrea had the privilege of attending the Duke of Edinburgh Award China International Award Ceremony. While students proudly received their awards, we were announced as a 5-star delivery partner! Down south, our Greater Bay team, the dynamic trio of Jomiene, Dani, and Paul, who has just opened our Hong Kong office, were at the International Schools Services EDU EXPO 2024. Meanwhile, our Camps team — Bernice, Mimi, and Wesley—were at the The British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong's (britchamgd) British Day in Guangzhou. Last but not least, Tom was at Nord Anglia International School Shanghai Pudong Bonfire Night and Diwali Celebration.

Shanxi is often called the land of China’s “above-ground treasures,” and it’s easy to see why. This year, the much-anticipated game Black Myth: Wukong made waves, showcasing 36 historical sites—27 of which are located in Shanxi, with three listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. But it’s not just game developers who’ve found inspiration in Shanxi’s rich heritage. In the 1930s, famed architect duo Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin embarked on an ambitious archaeological survey of Shanxi, documenting more than 500 ancient structures through sketches, maps, and photographs. For those intrigued by Shanxi’s timeless wonders, we’ve crafted a journey that retraces the steps of Liang and Lin’s passionate and precise fieldwork, while exploring the historic sites from Black Myth: Wukong. Discover Shanxi’s archaeological gems and learn how these early studies laid the groundwork for China’s historic preservation efforts. #WildChina #BlackMythWukong #Shanxi #ChinaTravel #Archeology

Connecting with the local community and experiencing rural life in Datong through active participation and meaningful service.
Datong is known for its rich historical and cultural landmarks, including the Yungang Grottoes, the Hanging Monastery, and ancient city walls, making it a key destination for Buddhist and architectural heritage. However, when we take students there, we do more than just sightseeing. This time, students helped harvest corn, a staple crop in Datong. Corn has been a fundamental part of the local diet for centuries and is used in traditional dishes like cornmeal porridge and steamed corn buns, making it essential for rural communities. Additionally, this group of students contributed to the beautification of a local village by painting murals. Experiences like this help students engage meaningfully with the community, fostering a deeper understanding of rural life, promoting cultural exchange, and encouraging a sense of responsibility for the upkeep of the area.

Some moments are meant to be captured! This August, we had the pleasure of hosting seven travel agents for a FAM trip in Beijing. It’s no easy task to showcase the essence of China in just three days, but we carefully curated our favorite experiences in the capital to give our guests a true taste of the best Beijing has to offer. From a private Tai Chi lesson at the Temple of Heaven to exploring the Forbidden City, and toasting with champagne on the Great Wall—it was a whirlwind journey through our most cherished spots. A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful partner hotel, Rosewood Beijing, for their exceptional hospitality and for beautifully capturing these cherished memories. We couldn’t have asked for a better co-host to share this journey with! #Rosewood #WildChina #ChinaTravel #China #FAMTrip
