The 59th MDW’s continued research and leadership will be critical in refining the program and expanding it to other Air Force units. Hoffman, who will co-lead a mental health and peer support workshop at the Aerospace Medical Association Scientific Meeting in June 2025, remains committed to driving this initiative forward. As the Air Force prioritizes resilience and readiness, the MAPS program—supported by the 59th MDW—sets a new standard for mental health care within military aviation. Spatial Disorientation and Vestibular Illusions. •The latests Federal Aviation Administration #FlySafe topic examines the vestibular illusions that pilots may encounter and what to do to avoid these dangerous situations. -Which way is really up? To some, this may sound like a silly or odd question, but for pilots, this can be a real concern. Statistics show that between 5 to 10% of all general aviation accidents are attributed to spatial disorientation, and 90% of those are fatal.
